Alvernyth

The world. Alvernyth is the planet Y/N resides on.

The world has a number of differences from ours. First and foremost, conception requires consent from both individuals. Both participants must want a child with the other before they can have a child.

Next, systemic magic isn't weird or unknown, but it's not something everyone can access. So while Y/N mentioning his screens won't raise any suspicions, it may make some jealous. The specific reason why some have access to the magic and some don't is as yet unknown within the world.

Monsters gaining sentience also isn't unheard of, though different species have different requirements to do so. Those that do usually choose to remain living as monsters. Additionally, different species may have different memories of their time pre-sentience.

Miscellaneous
Systemic Magic

This is the name for the screens Y/N sees. The exact cause isn't known in Alvernyth, though there are researchers looking into it.

While many have access to them, not everyone does. So mentioning them is considered poor manners, excluding those who are incapable of accessing it.

The system can be matter-of-fact, snarky, or sarcastic. It has been known to be misleading, though it's never known to have outright lied. Finally, there are things it can't know and things it does but shouldn't.

Monster Sentience
Monsters gaining sentience (the ability to think about their ability to think, essentially) is a well known phenomenon. Different species gain different levels of intelligent, and the exact reason can vary greatly.

Some species require reaching a certain level and choosing a sub-species, others require reaching a specific level of intelligence. The requirements for sentience are as varied as the species of monsters themselves.

As for public opinion, monsters are viewed as threats until they gain sentience. And even then, they're generally considered to be potential threats until they prove otherwise. Ace is a rarity to speak before attacking.

There is a slave trade for sentient monsters, relying on "collar magic", which enforces subservience and obedience to their master. There are laws that pertain to the specific treatment of slaves, but they're ignored unless the master upsets someone in power.
Race - Saurian

Lizard folk, Thornskin is a derogatory, racist name used specifically for the ones that turn bandit.

They are capable of regrowing limbs, though this expends massive amounts of energy, requiring them to eat a lot during such times, or the body will cannibalize fat stores and muscle mass.

They also can make more efficient use of their muscle mass, resulting in overall greater strength than most other races. The flip side of this is that they tend to have lower intelligence.

They make for good bodyguards and farmers, as long as they have someone else to handle the brain-heavy work.

Race - Demonoid
Originally thought to be evil due to their wings, horns, and tail, they actually have no relation to demons. There is still a major racism issue against them, however, as the previously fearful thoughts have turned to hate over the decades.

Most demonoids tend to have pale skin, and all, even the darker tones, are ashen.

Additionally, demonoids do not have a sense of embarrassment the same as other races, and they tend to be less modest, though they are careful about not showing private bits for the sake of others around them.

Due to the racism and mostly false rumors, most demonoids tend not to trust outside their race, and if they do, it's usually rather slow. That said, they aren't stupid and most won't allow preconceived notions to cloud their judgement. If you're in good with one demonoid, chances are good you'll be accepted by most others, should the first introduce you or imprint a scent upon you, marking you as a "trusted individual".

meta: the "trusted" scent is exclusive to and only detectable by demonoids. it's more a feeling than an actual scent and is akin to IRL kinship pacts.
Characters
Y/N

A Changeling - Yaksha.

(Meta: No solid appearance, voice, or gender. They can change everything about themselves and should be viewed as the reader wishes them to be unless otherwise stated for the limited timeframe)

Has a fresh perspective of everything and a textbook understanding of the world, but has no frame of reference for anything. For example, they know a Fish is a scaled animal that lives in water. But they won't know what a Fish looks like until they see one.

They can't use magic aside from their species ability to shapeshift. They can use a variety of weapons, such weapons being their own body changing shape and hardness. They can subsist on food or, for a limited time, blood. They can hold a humanoid form for eight hours currently, and can change their body's total mass slightly by expending additional mana, shortening the time they can hold their form.

By drinking blood, they gain abilities based on the creature they drank the blood of.

Aezelika/Ace

A demonoid with ashen grey skin, white hair, frost blue eyes and red horns. She has a prehensile tail with a small tuft of fur on the end and vestigial wings that are completely incapable of flight.

She's fairly happy-go-lucky and a friendly person, but she's guarded and doesn't like feeling emotionally exposed.

She normally wears a clothes that are a bit more revealing, though when she's out adventuring, she dresses more conservatively, with leather armor. Either way, she wears thick socks with lace-up, knee-high leather boots and a black choker. She normally uses two daggers for fighting, where her speed is a prime asset for her.
