It’s been twenty years since the Changeover ended. Eighty since the Old World died. Now is the time of the New, where humanity walks hand-in-hand with eldritch creatures from the other side of reality. They brought us the Sorcery we needed to tear it all down, and it’ll be with their help that we usher in an age of peace and possibility.
A child of the New World, Nadia grew up believing this with her whole being. Planned her life around these words. Only to have one night reveal them to be a lie. One night where five summoners destroyed her home, slew a god, and killed her dad. Their mistake was missing her.
Joining hands with the goddess of a destroyed Court, Nadia will track down her father’s killers to the ends of the earth. Down into the dark secrets that lie at the roots of the vaunted New World and its false peace. Even if she has to destroy the world and herself in the process.
Five summoners destroyed her life, and with the shards she’ll slit their throats.

The Comfort of the Knife has a very unique tone in the first few chapters of the story so far. It shows an extremely interesting world as well as a protagonist struggling to deal with the horrors that the world puts her up against. And that protag simply (and very entertainingly) deals with these problems in self destructive ways to both herself and the people around her. Also apparently there’s going to be toxic Yuri which is great.

A delicious and gorey journey, The Comfort of the Knife balances its pacing as well as its bloodlust. Every relationship Nadia forms is different in form and function, and every step she takes towards her revenge is lit clearly by her reckless desire and the influences that temper it. Well worth the read, especially for lesbian readers who want to see the world burn a little.

Comfort; or, The Chalcedony Mist of Revenge and Destructive Decisions
The Comfort Of The Knife is a gorgeously written, stylish, Urban Fantasy x Xianxia x New-Weird-esque story of revenge, ultra-violence, terribly self-destructive decisions and deliciously Toxic Yuri; Comfort is set in a post-apocalyptic new (& re-emergent) world reeling from the sudden cataclysmic advent of magic: Courts and Entities. Nadia is one of the most compelling anti-hero leads I’ve come across in a web-serial: side characters —enemies and allies alike— are distinct, multi-faceted and captivating. The gloriously evocative, s*xy and sumptuous, descriptive prose is wonderful: dripping with style and substance. The Real and Underside sections are distinct and vivid: it’s like seeing colour for the first time, hyperreal and dream-like simultaneously; I’ve not come across a writing style as distinct as MxOberon’s in the web-serial space, it’s sublime: I’m a sucker for prose-porn, so this hooked me immediately! For those that try the first few chapters and are unsure, I’d recommend getting to Ch.14-15 or so as that’s where you start to see where the story is heading (thematically and narratively, polish also rapidly increases after the first few chapters) : narrative pacing and execution are brilliant, the world expands organically and realistically.
If you like stories of revenge, disaster lesbians, angst, ultra-violence, insane magic, Xianxia, unique Entities, and creative executions of any/all of the above, all while dripping with s*xual tension, then I’d wholeheartedly recommend checking out Comfort. You’ll be in for a while ride that you won’t want to get off.
