In 2013, 19-year old Harrison was the wealthy successor of the Woods family, but struggling to find a path for himself while shouldering the enourmous burden put on him by his wealthy parents. Attending a college party to get the affection of a cute girl, Harrison is accidentally hit in the head by a football tossed by a football player and wakes up in 2023 as the beloved high school English teacher Candace Queen, a beautiful young woman with a loving...boyfriend? The same guy that hit Harrison in the head?! Can Harrison make peace with the woman he's become over the past ten years, or will everything Candace has built for herself come crashing down?
I'll probably update this review as I go? Maybe?
Although I don't generally like amnesia as a plot device, I think here it ends up working shockingly well. The added dimension of "waking up trans" is super interesting because it forces our main character to kind of recontexualize her life. There's also some fun ambiguities (primarily via hints dropped in the 'future' scenes) that make reading the flashbacks more interesting as you try to piece together the timeline and what exactly happened.
My only real complaint, which is minor, is that the story doesn't really feel balanced between how much we see of Candace as an adult versus Canadace at other points in her life. I would have liked that to be a bit more balanced because it feels like we're always sorting through flashbacks while the 'main' story is on hold.
