Mortals have always clung to neat ideas about the afterlife — of karma, rebirth, and the punishments that follow sin. But what if even death isn’t the end?
Zhang Xiyu was once a scholar in the royal court. He died centuries ago and quickly learned that there indeed could be a death after death. Betrayed by his king while alive and discarded by his judge after death. But those are matters of the past. The souls crying under his palm would never imagine that once upon a time, Zhang Xiyu was one of them.
Lord Enma has turned away, the underworld is collapsing, and the damned souls spill into the mortal realm and prey upon the humans.
Upon entering Hell, its three princes decide to cast him into the Kaigan Pit, the rotting heart of every nightmare, not just for their sick entertainment. But to retrieve the Blue Lotus, the artifact said to grant dominion over Hell.
What he finds instead is a goddess.
The ancient mother of Hell binds him with an unbelievable promise: kill Enma's sons, take his throne, and restore what corruption has ruined.
In a world where every soul hides a blade, and every god has abandoned their post, only one question prevails.
Has Hell chosen a new heir?
And if it has— is Zhang Xiyu being crowned… or led somewhere else entirely?

<<“Tasa Mammon on ca lirach!”
The chanting swelled as the thread crept closer.
Time fractured around the girl—dragging and rushing all at once. No one noticed the thread sliding in behind her until—
—a wet explosion of crimson mist.
Her vision split. The world tilted and slid downward. Her body followed, severed cleanly into two perfect halves.
The cult stared in stunned reverence.
“Lord Mammon!” they cried, smashing their foreheads into the floor.
But Lord Mammon was in a hurry.
The mist compressed into an arrow and shot straight toward the chief summoner.
“My Lo—”
His eyes burst from their sockets, rolling across the floor to rest beside the girl’s remaining one.
The rest of the cult stood frozen, still trying to understand. Hadn’t Mammon promised them happiness beyond human limits? Then why was their leader lying dead at their feet?
The red mist dispersed as quickly as it had arrived. Liu Xue then promptly returns without sparing a single glance at their trembling jaws or their wet pants.
