Synopsis

If you were told there was another unseen world hidden in plain sight, would you believe that?

If you were told invisible otherworldly beings pulled the strings in the background for their own sick and twisted amusement, could you accept that?

Of course not!

Diogenes Genovese, a man of science who denies the unbridled reign of gods and demons, struggles through the adversity and opposes the unjust world he finds himself a part of.

Bombarded by a string of ever escalating calamities and disasters, his beliefs are tested; pushed to never before seen extremes, while surrounded by a slew of lunatics, he seeks out the truth of the irrational world we live in.

      Spoiler

This story is more than what meets the eye. The title can make the reader think that it's another trash isekai novel, when it really is a masterpiece. I love psychological horror novels, and have never found one as good as this except Re:Zero.

The grammar is pretty good, and I haven't seen any horrible errors. Amazing use of word choice. 5/5

The story is amazing, and has many points of suspense. Not your average novel. 4.5/5

The style is spectacular. The way the author uses cliffhangers to build suspense is amazing. 5/5

Characters are above average. Sometimes the MC can seem dumb or delusional, but bare with it. 4/5

World building is above average. Not many people can manage to make an actual functioning world. 4.5/10

Overall, I'd say this novel is a 9/10.

      [collapse]
I wrote an old review of this story a couple of years ago. I would like to rewrite my review now that I am a more experienced reader and author. This review will more accurately portray the quality of the fiction rather than how say how much I enjoyed it.

Style: Unique, Amazing Unreliable Narrator, 10/10

The style is simply a hit or miss. This type of writing is targeted towards a certain demographic of people and is simply amazing or extremely confusing to read. The way the author manages to explain everything while still making you extremely confused and mindf**ked is nothing short of top tier writing. I can say I've never seen a better novel with an unreliable narrator. Surely, it isn't for everyone, but I strongly advise you try to check it out.

      Plot: Poorly Explained, 6/10

The plot of this book is good and would be 9/10 if it wasn't so poorly executed and extremely poorly explained. The average reader will NOT comprehend what the entire point of the story is which makes it a jarring read. The plot however, IS there and it is nothing short of amazing. Unfortunately limited by the writing of the author.

      World: Poorly Explained, 5/10

The world building of this novel is above average and what you would typically see in a great novel. However it is limited by the writing of the author which will drop the rating of a 8/10. The author fails to properly explain what is really going on half of the time but does manage to make a comprehensible world despite failing to explain the more complex aspects. It is simply average, with at least an attempt to explain the backstory and things going on around our MC.

      Characters: Strange, 7/10

The characters of this novel fall short of average. Most non main characters fall into tropes which makes the characters two dimensional and boring. However, the main characters make up for that. The MC is extremely detailed and has a intricate personality as well as the other main characters. They bring this 4/10 to a 7/10 due to the sheer improvement in the difference of quality.

      Grammar/Word Choice: Average, 6/10

The grammar is alright and tends to not have any errors. Word choice allows the author to explain the story with some details allowing the average reader to follow along with not much difficulty.

      Enjoyment: 10/10 in my opinion

Quality: 7/10 for the webnovel version

Conclusion: This IS a webnovel so most of the issues I have addressed are probably fixed in the published versions. Please support this really cool author so they can continue to make books like these.

Status: chapter 149. (volume 2 end)

Its very rare to see a novel like this until chapter 80-100 it was fine but then the "mystery" sequences became too repetitive the MC doesn't do anything to fix his relationship either he just runs away all the time its a bit bland but decent enough

Ok so my thoughts story was interesting at first, sadly it became the rinse and repeat type.

I lost interest and found myself feeling frustrated with how pathetic MC was, he's submissive way too much I would of punched those bit*hes in the face and knocked them out.

There's mystery and horror but it's just not fulfilling it's not the ohhhhhh I'm excited what's gonna happen type and more of the Ugh just get this garbage over with already.

Personally I recommend reading this if you don't care about slow progress and boring AF MC.

Enjoyed nearly every moment. It was a very enjoyable read. Lots of yandere stuff. Lots of mindf***ery.

The ex encounter that disturbed me the most was the one at the beginning of the story. Maybe it simply was that since it was the first I was not ready for it.

      An incredibly dissapointing draft -

Keep in mind that I'm reviewing this under the assumption it's the draft for a novel the author is working on and not the final product since I couldn't figure out any other reason for the state it's currently in, it's a series of hallucinations vaguely strung together with words between them to give an outline for a story to be written into at a later point but in it's current state there's very little to read besides the hallucinations themselves.

It's currently written as a series of "one shots" about a guy having different... encounters? With murderers? It's hard to even give a vague description of the running theme because even after 80 repeated chapters of the same basic concept almost nothing makes any cohesive sense. Every girl the MC meets is a nutcase who's inexplicably in love with him and mentally unstable in some way, the MC also uses every opportunity to be as dumb, pathetic and "accomodating" as possible. What I mean by that is the MC isn't so much a protagonist as he is a convenient tool for the author to drag out the hallucinations and such, once this draft gets written into an actual novel id say this issue will be the most apparent because once we have an actual protagonist alot of the scenes are incapable of playing out in their current ways.

He is a scared, courageous, intelligent, moron who stays level headed in a constant panic attack and smoothly navigates the novel like a bumbling moron. Nothing he ever does follows a fluid pattern and he jumps around between personalities at the whims of the story, abruptly changing to whatever type of character is needed to drag out the current scene. The girls of the novel... exist? Sometimes? I can safely say atleast 70% of the tags on this novel are blatantly false and just there to try and draw an audience in to test this draft out which I both don't agree with and don't totally despise, it does however make it hard to say whether or not the draft fills any of the promises provided because who's to say which tags are clickbait and which were actually intended to be included so I'll cover the main ones.

      Romance - no

      Supernatural - unclear

Mystery - I still don't even know what on earth the novel is about so yeah, it's a mystery

Horror - there's gore? In dreams? That aren't really dreams sometimes? It counts but vaguely

All of the "protagonist" tags besides male are false

The rest of the sub-tags are kinda unclear still and could go either way in all honesty.

All that aside I think once this novel gets completed properly it has potential, the few times it managed to be cohesive for more than a chapter at a time it managed to build suspense quite well and a few of the minor mysteries did leave me desiring answers even if we never get them. Adding some of the features promised by the tags would go a long way to help like adding a romance plotline or giving us a fleshed out protagonist, which methods for those you implement decides on the direction you wish to take the final release in.

I read most of this (IE through like chap 120 or so when the main story appears to end and it kinda goes random af.) like a year a half ago on Web novel and I just thought I'd throw a warning out there. If you have mental health problems then reading this might be a bit too much to handle. This novel really messed me up. Sure I enjoyed it mostly, but overall I'd give it a psychotic-episode/10 I was struggling for like 2 months after reading this cause it's like the perfect storm to throw your mental health on the fritz esp when you've got too many things going on like DID, GAD and BPD

NOTE: THIS SHOULD BE THREE STARS.

I HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT DOESN'T SEEM TO SHOW THAT.

I don't think I've ever felt as conflicted about a story as I do this one.

On one hand, it's easily the best mindf***k I've ever read. The author manages to evoke a feeling of feel and dread that few manage. At the same time, there are just enough hints at a greater picture in play to keep things interesting, despite how random much of it is.

However, those hints are also my first big problem with the story.

After reading the first two volumes, it seems like those hints server no purpose but to keep you reading in the hope it eventually makes sense. Unfortunately, any time there seems to be an actual hint of what's really going on, it is quickly invalidated. The idea of delusion bleeding into reality is interesting, but here it's just used to play the "It was only a dream" trope over and over. It's to the point where nothing that happens means anything to me, because it could very well be retconned out of existence in the next chapter.

After 2 full volumes this story hasn't managed to be anything but a long series of disjointed events that, while interesting, seem to be nothing but pure horror crack. There has been little to no plot or character development along the way, or, if there actually was some, it's buried so deep under the random and inconsistent events that I missed it entirely.

Don't get me wrong. I really did enjoy what I read of this. I even started to read the third volume on Amazon. Unfortunately, it started with yet another massive shift in things with no explanation that left me feeling like the author forgot to post a dozen chapters that happened in-between. Since I was already undecided as to whether or not I wanted to keep reading, this was enough to prompt me to drop it entirely.
