Mob term for the Mafia. It is also the way to introduce known Mafiosi to each other as belonging to "cosa nostra" (our thing) or "la stessa cosa" (the same thing), which means s/he is 'the same thing as you – a Mafioso'. In Solamente, once you are bound to the Cosa Nostra, you can no longer leave the family until you die. Deserters, defectors, and traitors are either punished or tortured, with the heaviest penalty being death.

An associate.

A crime believed to have been committed by the Mafia, in such a way that the victim's body is never found.

The Mafia Code of Silence. Members of the Mafia family are bound to honor this code which places importance on silence, non-cooperation with authorities, and non-interference in the illegal actions of others. Within the Mafia, breaking Omerta is punishable by death.

To scare or blackmail someone in order to get money from them.

Cleaning up, hiding, or getting rid of evidence.

 A committee of leading Mafia members (usually the bosses) who decide on important questions concerning the actions of, as well as resolving disputes within the Cosa Nostra.
