It is also the way to introduce known Mafiosi to each other as belonging to "cosa nostra" (our thing) or "la stessa cosa" (the same thing), which means s/he is 'the same thing as you – a Mafioso'. In Solamente, once you are bound to the Cosa Nostra, you can no longer leave the family until you die. Deserters, defectors, and traitors are either punished or tortured, with the heaviest penalty being death.
