Synopsis

Erind Hartwell, a first-year law student with psychopathic tendencies and an obsessive compulsion to follow an arbitrary set of Rules, tries to live a normal life in a world where superhumans battle eldritch horrors invading minds. Society frowned on different, and she was content with playing along if the world didn't bother her. That was one of the many Rules she followed.

Unfortunately, the world couldn't help but bother Erind's normal life. On the brink of death, an entity offered powers to save her. Left with no other choice, she accepted it, changing into a new form—the first of many that'll allow her to bother the world that bothered her.

This story is radically proficient at keeping consistent character values, information, and motivation in how they influence their actions.  There is magic/supernatural stuff going on, but the human/society reactions and growth around and into that stuff is extremely convincing.

Throughout the story I keep expecting the standard story notes, only to be surprised with something out of left field.... which I would've seen coming if I instead asked how a real city/population/mob/person would act given the circumstances.

The multiple POVs help reinforce this because things never stop happening, even if they're not on screen... until BAM someone crashes through a wall or something an hour after you last heard from their POV because there largely is no pause button.  So much happening off screen really lends to the feeling that the characters are alive. Enough to keep you on edge and paying attention, but not enough to be disorienting.

Great writing, cool characters, interesting situations, fun powers. Good stuff.

    Status: (spin off) erind/deen – 5.23.1

Realistically depicted psychopathy was one of the goals of the author, and the intelligent writing really goes well to show how they nailed it.

Its really long, its real smart, its good.

The Protagonist is a manipulative bitch through and through.

Its gory, its violent, its got 6 volumes and the powers the protagonist gains are very interesting. I really like REND but its not the kinda thing I can really recommend to many people I know, since its complex, violent, and the MC is not a nice person.

(also they made a spin off just so that they could make the 2 main girls gay for eachother lol)

This story is SO good, and with so much potential, but has a few plot holes. Nothing bad, but pretty recurring ones.

Also, it seems like the protagonist values her rules more than her life? Even though preserving herself is one of her rules too?

Apart from that, the story is amazing, if only a bit confusing ~
