I'm not a big fan of the trope that only women are allowed to use magic, just like I'm not a fan of the trope of any gender having some universe-granted unique ability that no other one can use. It can't help but feel a tiny bit bioessentialist in practice, regardless of the reason.
If you can accept that, this is a very well-written story with a lot of heart. Despite being very short, the personalities of all the characters shine through and there's even time for some meaningful character development. The magic in this setting is engaging even without in-depth descriptions of how it works.
