Bedridden and slowly feeling his life drift away day by day, Asher had given up entirely on ever living a life outside of the four walls of his hospital room and had almost given up on having a life at all. That is, until he found an escape from his fate.
In the VRMMO Landasy Reality, Asher cast away his old life, donning the name of Asura and rising as an angelic warrior. Fighting demons, dragons and thousands of other players, day by day Asura struggles to not only enjoy the little time she has left, but to create a legacy that will be known throughout her world for generations.
To most, Landasy Reality is just a game. But to them? It’s their last and final escape.
Okay, so, this was a lot to take in. I've bought the book on Amazon and binged it in about a day, and I've just finished reading like 5 minutes ago. First and foremost, this was a great story, very, very emotional, and very sad, but I loved reading it.
I'll make sure to use spoiler tags in order to avoid revealing anything important, but, fair warning, you still shouldn't read this if you haven't finished the story yourself.
A lot of stories that can be found on the internet are very fluffy, they're meant to make you feel happy, and often you even forget that things can go wrong at any moment. Not that this makes a story bad at all, my point is that you can quickly get used to stories having low stakes. This isn't the case with this story. Things go wrong, several times, and Asura's life is far from being all sunshines and rainbows. This meant, for me, at least, that I just couldn't stop reading, and I think this is going to end up as one of these stories that I won't easily forget.
The one thing that bothered me a little bit was the overuse of the word "before" in the story. As in, "character did this, before something happened". It comes up very often and was a bit of a distraction starting towards the middle of the story, once I noticed it. It's not a huge issue or anything, but use more varied structures would be nice.
Also, the whole gender aspect of the story felt a bit underdeveloped, considering Asura is (I think?) a transgender character. That's not fundamentally a bad thing though, just something I personally would have loved to see more of.
Now, regarding the ending,
I thought it was very bittersweet, as we'll never know whether Asura ended up obtaining her sixth mastery, which was pretty painful to see, though I can see why you've decided to end the story there. In the end, I think it fits the general tone and atmosphere of the book very well. But, still, ouch, it hurts so much : (
Okay, so that's the end of my review. 14/10, I can't wait to read more stories from you.
But one more thing I really need to know. Is Tod the nurse actually Mutt??? Because they both talk about spiders being really big where they come from, and Mutt also talks about having heard of one patient who has a condition similar to Asura's and I really need to know it's killing me please
