Samuel, age 35, is a young man with quite an interesting past. Born to a human mother and father, unfortunate circumstances resulted in his mother's death moments after birth which resulted in only his father being able to take care of him. His father was the Town Warden, yet the town of Hethengard paid him just as much as a peasant out of spite for whatever reason. His father would have to cut his own food rations just to feed his newborn son and barely make it through the day. When Samuel turned 5, his father gave him a wooden sword, and told him that Samuel would have to develop skills with a blade if he wished to make it in the future. 2 years of vigorous training would occur, with a small mix of learning to read and write put in between before on an unfortunate day, a mysterious figure would murder Samuel's father in front of him.
Samuel could've protected his father if he wasn't such a young boy, and his father's assailant mocked him for it. The assailant wasn't human, no, it was something unnatural. Preferring to go buy the name "Horrid", it would from that point haunt Samuel, taunting him for his failure as he was forced to try to live on his own, training by himself and stealing to keep himself fed and clothed. He never had any interactions with women yet he was taught a decent about of manners and chivalry, learning to respect his elders as they have had lived through it all, and he would appreciate the work they put into their lives. When he became old enough, Samuel would have scrounged up the money to purchase a bronze armor set to which he wears this day. He has sworn to avenge his father, even if he dies doing it.
Hethengard is a small town located in between two small mountains that have shielded the town from invaders and major heat waves. It originated as a basic trading settlement by a few skilled merchants before it came into contact with the Nobility, who offered to buy out the trading settlement to make a town. The merchants eagerly agreed and within days the town of Hethengard was founded. What lies in the center is s rather ornate and well-decorated Grand Hall where members of the Nobility rest in absolute comfort. The rest of the town is rather shabby, as not much money was put into the homes for the residents. Cheap weapons and armor were provided to poorly-trained troops while the Nobility had their steel-and-gold paladins guarding the Grand Hall. Petitions and protests have occurred to try and change their ways but they usually resulted in a public execution for 'disturbance of the Nobility'. As a result, the residents of Hethengard set up the Merc Guild, to get Mercenaries to fight for them when the Nobility refused to give proper attention to needed causes.
