I gave this a 5 because this was a 5 worthy story. The characters are well fleshed out. Though there is a lack of description at times, the interactions and dialog makes up for it. The story's pacing is a bit slow, but it's also very steady. I like the humor and the conflicts are compelling, reasonable and generally believably resolved. This was a grade-A steak of a story.... though now I have a hankering for hamburger or pizza, something simpler and more immediately satisfying, because even if the characters "seem" to grow pretty quickly they stay well out of their depth in a way that might not be to everyone's taste. That being said, readers who like to complain about stories having no stakes or difficulty will be well pleased with this story. This story has both stakes and the characters are certainly not walking through any sort of bed of roses. Even if they do get help it's help that keeps the story moving forward and often brings more complications. Overall an excellent read.

Normally I wouldn't write a review of a story that I hadn't finished, but I felt like it is absolutely necessary here.
I set the story aside as a 'to be read later', and decided today was a good day to start another story.... Except, I can't read this one. I have looked at the small 'chunk of chapters' that were left behind as a placeholder, however.
The story has a decent premise, the writing style is reasonably clean, and the characters are easy to identify. Yet, the story is significantly lacking. That is, the author deleted most of the story, quite possibly to sell through Amazon's Kindle Unlimited program, which demands that you not have the 'book' anywhere else. (Amazon KDP does NOT have this requirement.) Even this might not have been a giant issue, except that the excerpts of the story aren't from the beginning, to try to draw in new readers, but rather 68 chapters into the story.
Thus this VERY basic review. It's not expected to change anything. It's simply to inform those scanning for a new story that this is unlikely to be one they wish to try.
