Doctor Abraham Henry Zolnikov has spent the last seven years isolated in his orbital laboratory, watching the Earth below descend into chaos. A biological virus combined with a nanite programming virus has created flesh eating, mindless abominations that hunt all other living things for food. Human civilization fell in a matter of weeks. There has been no indication of any living survivors on Earth's surface for over two years. As far as he knows, he is the last living human in the entire solar system.
Then one day the power begins to fail on the space station he’s called home for over a decade. Stepping outside the lab will be risky. But remaining means certain death. The good doctor is a curious man, however. If he manages to survive, who knows what hidden secrets he will discover?
While this is not my genre I have to say I'm quite surprised at the writing style. Normally I stay away from Sci-fi due to way everything is often described, but taking it first person here seems to change it up from the wordy drab. At least for the first 4 chapters I have yet to grow tired of the voice but I'm sure I will. The Author put a lot of thought into the character he is writing and I don't know if this is also posted on Royal Road but this is exactly the kind of novel they like... it's also the kind of novel I don't like... but I'm leaving 5 stars here because I recognize how well thought out it was and got some enjoyment out of it where I normally wouldn't. Any writing that can get me to enjoy a genre I usually hate has potential. If you are into sci-fi and an analytical character with a bit of emotion then this is one you should give a shot too.

One man, probably the last surviving one, is left to monologue and world build.... and fight zombies. Now, if the exposition wasn't broken by the constant need of the MC to move through the space station, and his fights with the zombies, I'd say it is too much. But, it is broken up nicely along the story. The grammar is nice and the style is well done. If you like sci-fi and interesting science behind zombies, then, check this story.
