Miscellaneous
Geography, Species, & Nationalities of the Realm

The New Continent is divided almost evenly into three political entities. The continent is an irregular egg shape, with the Kingdom of the Rainlands occupying the north-east third, the Valleylands occupying the north-west, and the Domain of the Dragonlord occupying the south. A thick mountain range divides the Rainlands and Valleylands, while the Domain is bordered by a mix of smaller mountains, forests, and arid semi-desert lands as you go further south.

Kingdom of the Rainlands:

The Kingdom of the Rainlands was founded as a defensive alliance after the Dragonlord launched their war on the colonists invading the New Continent. In time this alliance solidified into a single nation ruled by a King or Queen, but without a royal bloodline. Instead, noble houses were created from each of the human, elven, and dwarven settlements, and from these houses a ruler was selected. When a ruler dies, rather than leadership passing directly to their children, a new election occurs from among the representatives of each house. The gnoll communities were not interested in the creation of a noble class, and so instead of houses they have their own council of respected elders who send representatives.

  • Humans - The human colonial efforts were funded by a number of minor noble families who had lost most of their lands and assets in the wake of the Age of Warlocks and its collapse. They came from a variety of small kingdoms and city-states, joining together for a single attempt at finding a new home.
  • Elves - Many of the ancient elven kingdoms were brought to ruin during the demonic wars that raged during the Age of Warlocks. When faced with having to start over from scratch, some chose to join the colonial efforts in order to start somewhere new rather than among the ruins. Elves do not die of old age, but few elves are older than a few centuries thanks to the high mortality rates of the demonic wars.
  • Dwarves - Like humans, dwarves are also based around a number of noble families who sought out new lands to settle. They have taken heavily to the mountain range along the Rainlands' western border. Dwarves age slower than humans, with a life expectancy of around 140. Dwarves are notoriously known as the most promiscuous species in the world, and when someone refers to a half-<X> ethnicity, it is usually assumed that the unstated half is dwarven.
  • Gnolls - The colonists who made up the Rainlands gnolls came from tribes of forest gnolls, who are notably smaller than their more notorious plainlands kin. They are often between four and five feet of height, and have a life expectancy of around 60 years. They are an egalitarian people and their culture is often considered unusual by the standards of their countrymen.

The Valleylands:

The Valleylands is the newest nation of the continent, having been formed after a number of former colonial city-states rose up in revolt against the Dragonlord, who had conquered them in a war over a century earlier. It's a rather loose confederation, with each city-state sending representatives to a national council at regular intervals to decide national affairs.

  • Orcs - orcs populate most of the coastal city-states, and are the most numerous faction of the Valleylands. They are known for their strength, as well as their productivity in many forms of industry. Their life expectancy is around eighty years.
  • Minotaurs - The smallest demographic of the continent's former colonists, due to relatively low fertility rates. They are also the largest, often standing between seven and eight feet and at times even larger. They tend to be farmers and herders in the nation's inner reaches, preferring to have lots of open space. Minotaurs can often live to be over a hundred.
  • Driders - Often living underground, driders are numerous but rarely seen. They are very magically adept, with their 'Mana Weavers' occupying the highest rungs of their society. They mature quickly but also live fairly long lives, with life expectancy being around 90.
Geography, Species, & Nationalities of the Realm 2

Domain of the Dragonlord:

The Domain, according to the Dragonlord, covers the entirety of the continent, but in practical terms is now limited to the southern third. The Domain rarely had any notable settlements in the more lush northern reaches due to the preferences of its native species, which had led early explorers to believe the continent was unoccupied. When the colonists first arrived it took time for the Dragonlord to muster their forces to expel them, and when the war finally occurred, they only managed to sweep up the western coast before being halted. Those colonists were then turned into slaves, until eventually rebelling and becoming the Valleylands. The current Domain is inhospitable by most standards, consisting of arid desert-like regions, deep canyons, mountain ranges, and geothermically active areas.

  • Draconics - Said to be descended from dragons, draconics are tall humanoids with scales, wings, and a tail. They are both physically strong and magically powerful, but often arrogant and do not usually develop their magical skills with much refinement compared to other species. They have a life expectancy of around a hundred and twenty years.
  • Kobolds - It is possible but uncertain that kobolds are also related to dragons. They are often short, around five feet in height, and have scales and tails. They are far less prideful than their possible draconic cousins and tend to be good-natured. Their life expectancy is around 60 to 70 years.
  • Slimes - Slimes live almost exclusively in the geothermically active chemical pools which exist in certain regions of the Domain, and rarely travel due to their poor mobility. They are short-lived but eager to make the most of life, and are known to be nearly as promiscuous as dwarves, despite it being extremely hard for them to interbreed with other species. Their life expectancy is only around twenty years.
  • Demons - Demons were the only group of colonists to willingly join the Dragonlord's forces when the offer/demand was made, largely due to the fact that the other colonial groups distrusted them thanks to the events of the Age of Warlocks. Demons come in a wide variety of types with various features often including red skin, golden eyes, horns, wings, and tails, with the specifics depending on the type. A type is defined by the metaphysical manner in which a demon feeds, for example: succubi/incubi feeding on pleasure and pain, arcane demons feeding on secrets and knowledge, and fury demons feeding on the punishment of crimes. Most demon types did not survive the Age of Warlocks in notable numbers, with some being entirely incapable of surviving in a peaceful environment, and most of the Domain's demon population is made up of succubi and incubi. Demons do not die of old age, but it is estimated that less than a thousand of those summoned during the Age of Warlocks several centuries earlier are still alive.

Other Races

  • Beastkin - Beastkin come in several dozen varieties, each hailing from a specific tribe in the Untamed Reaches, a heavily forested region of the Old Continents. Traits can vary wildly between tribes. Examples include mousekin, rabbitkin, and lizardkin.
  • Goblins - Goblins are a mercantile people mostly based in the port cities of the Old Continents, and most of the world's best sailors are goblins. Some goblin families immigrated to the Domain over the years, particularly back in the days when the slave trade was more active, although this has been very heavily limited following the Valleylands revolt.
  • Elementals - Elementals are a very unique species, and are in many ways 'ageless'. They are born fully formed from concentrations of highly-aspected mana, and then generally do not develop further either mentally or physically. They are born with an innate understanding of language and some of the world yet with no personal experience of it, and often have large gaps in their comprehension. Their odd outlook causes them to behave oddly compared to other species, with their behavior additionally affected by their elements. The base elements of fire, air, water, and earth account for most elementals, but elementals can have two or even three mana types, and more rare types of elemental have been encountered in unusual locations.

    Status: chapter 58: smashed

So far it's a good novel a solid 10/10, I have to admit I came expecting copper and I found pure gold it's one of the best novels on the site and I don't say it very often I barely do reviews. It's just perfect, everything fits together very well, the fights, the obscenity, the sadness, it's like laser cuts in metal, it fits perfectly.

(written with a translator, this is how I read the novel)
