Protagonist of the story. Reserved yet curious, he was saved from death and revived as an Awakener. He wields a shield Armament with the ability Assimilator's Core, allowing his shield to transform and take on the properties of another Armament.

A beautiful transfer student who joined Kazuki's class. A Nullity hunter, she took up that mantle in order to avenge her brother's death at the hands of the shadowy creatures. Despite appearing cold and distant, she eventually warmed up to Kazuki and his group of friends. Wields a sword Armament with the ability Crimson Lust.

After the main group lost contact with her, she has re-appeared as a collaborator with Euphoria. The nature of her allegiance with the group remains unclear.

The first of Kazuki's childhood friends and a member of the school's swimming club with a special affinity for the spiritual. Polite, gentle, and caring, she occasionally shows a much more clingy and jealous side. After coming to terms with her feelings towards Kazuki and Sayaka, she unlocks her Armament, the bow with a powerful ability, Innocence Arc.

An idol in hiatus. Often seen cheerful and upbeat as an idol, she hides a rather different personality and hidden frustrations behind that mask. Tends to show up in wigs that come in different hairstyles and hair colors, but her "ordinary civilian" look features a predominantly green side plait and glasses.

After unlocking her powers as an Awakener, she acquired the mic-shaped staff with the ability Prismatic Reverb.

Hikari's friend and an exceedingly shy and soft-spoken girl. She has gotten caught up in numerous incidents involving Mu. After being saved, she started showing some affection towards Kazuki as her "older brother."

She grew up in an unsupportive home background, and it aided her in tapping into her latent power. She wields a scythe Armament with the ability Inner Paradigm.

She has absorbed the power of the Ascended One called the Magna Arbiter, but almost immediately after, she fell into Euphoria's hands.

Voluptuous school counselor and an occasional substitute teacher. Lazy, haggard, and a tease, she nevertheless shows concern for her students. Quite knowledgeable with Mu and Nullities. She wields a necklace Armament with the ability Yata no Kagami.

She was once a researcher on science and metaphysics. She was also friends with Kiyone Shijo and Guren Izaya, the latter being her companion in the first trek to Mu. The two had a falling out after learning the truth behind the Akashic Records, the Nullities, and Kiyone's fate.

Now, the two work against each other in the race to return to the location of the Akashic Records.

Kazuki's little sister. Very responsible and doting. A big fan of idol culture and Yuki-tan. Despite her snarky attitude at times, she cares a lot for her older brother.

She was caught up in the Fragment created by Sana and the Magna Arbiter. She fell unconscious due to the injuries and the mental trauma caused by the Fragment and now lies comatose.

An affable yet mysterious silver-haired man who works as a personal lawyer and legal adviser of the Ishida Conglomerate. Behind the scenes, he leads the group Euphoria, a minor organization that is heavily connected to Mu and Nullities. 

He desires the power from Mu and the Ascended Ones to create the ideal world for humanity.

Was once good friends with Miyuko Sadohara, but they had a falling out after debating on what to do with the power that the Akashic Records holds. He has set out to re-open the gate to Babel, the tower where the ancient artifact lies, both to acquire its power and to rescue his girlfriend Kiyone.

He fights with the rapier Armament with the ability Yasakani.

Close friend of Miyuko Sadohara; Girlfriend of Guren Izaya. Active, energetic, and quite the go-getter, she acts as the life of the party who balances out Guren's uptight attitude and Miyuko's laid-back yet curious personality.

After Miyuko's experiment had gone wrong, she found herself in Mu, acting as the host of the strongest Ascended One, the Absolute Order. She seemed to retain some of her consciousness, however, and bestowed upon Guren and Miyuko their Armaments before helping them escape their first encounter with the Absolute Order.

A former heir candidate to the Ishida Conglomerate. Reijy was always seen with his clique and exerted a strong influence over Fuyusato Academy. 

He had strong feelings for his childhood friend, Akane Fujiwara, and he would do everything for their happiness. Opinions on her also soured his relationship with his father, who he had sworn to overthrow.

He had survived the incident at the Fuyusato Grand Festival but is now a broken man with eyes solely on revenge. He now dual wields twin sword Armaments and has a unique relationship with a fairy taking on the form of Akane Fujiwara.

A fairylike being that seemingly tethered to Reijy when he's near death. An embodiment of Nullity powers within Reijy, she resembles the deceased childhood friend while showing a sadistic and possessive personality completely different from the actual Akane. She often talks in a sarcastic manner and takes pleasure in Reijy giving in to his rage, but somehow, she seems to have some affection for her master.

Shadowy creatures that take various forms and reside in Mu's Fragments. Said to be manifestations of human emotion.

An empowered person who has gained access to Mu and can manifest a spirit weapon known as an Armament.

Spirit weapons that can be summoned by Awakeners. All of them come with a unique combat ability connected with its wielder's inner desires.

Powerful Nullities who have transcended their limits, gaining advanced skills such as complex human thought and logic, as well as abilities that affect the human world far beyond the capabilities of typical Nullities.

Three of them exist: The Absolute Order, the Render of Bounds, and the Magna Arbiter.

The mysterious scrolls that holds the world's history. It is where the stream of information flows in and shapes humanity's collective unconscious. At its peak, it can alter the "truth" that exists in the world by affecting mankind's subconscious and instinctive energy.

It is being guarded by the Absolute Order at the top of Babel.

A parallel dimension that can be accessed through portals by certain people. With its heavy atmosphere, it is a place housed by Nullities.

The various pocket dimensions that are part of Mu. While Mu is the parallel world, Fragments can be described as individual "dungeons" of that world that may or may not connect to one another.

High-tech dome shaped convention center that is a pinnacle of Shiroki City's technological inventions. The biggest concerts are held here, and a part of it contains a museum that gets used for special educational tours.

Location of Volume 3's climax.

Location of the school trip in volume 2. A mountain region surrounded by a lush forest. Travelers often stop by to indulge in its various shops, visit its shrines, or relax in one of the many hot springs in the inns.

Home of the Magna Arbiter, an Ascended One, that consumed Fuyusato Academy in volume 4. Shadowy hands lurk the huge temple in place of regular Nullities, and they serve the purpose of feeding and helping the Magna Arbiter evolve.

It seems to have memory-altering properties for people who have no powers.

The grand tower that houses the Akashic Records and the most powerful Ascended One, the Absolute Order. It is currently sealed off from the rest of Mu and can only be accessed by opening a special gate with the powers of the two other Ascended Ones at a certain location.

It was also where Miyuko Sadohara and Guren Izaya first got their Armaments.

Grand hotel complex full of luxurious amenities. Restaurants, pools, theaters, you name it!

It also has a connecting convention center, which is where the meat of Volume 5's plot takes place in.

The biggest shopping complex in Shiroki City. Featuring an observation deck and a tower, it also attracts numerous visitors with its aquarium, the biggest in the city.

Once a majestic research complex located in Shiroki City. The facility is now in ruins and abandoned after the huge accident caused by Miyuko's experiment three years prior to the start of the story.

It connects to Babel, which cannot be accessed through ordinary means.
