When the Diablerie crawled out from underneath Earth's crust, adolescent girls were granted godlike powers to fight them. Magical Girls: idols, soldiers, heroes, legends. Revered by the masses, shunned by the few, and conscripted to be the defenders of humanity against the Diablerie in an endless conflict. A life of misery, despair, loneliness, and heartache; such is the inexorable fate of a Magical Girl.

Elysia Hayes tries not to be discontent with her lot in life, but that's difficult when she's still reeling from the Diablerie Invasion that saw fit to ruin her. Now six months later, her family is shattered, her best friend won't give her the time of the day, and every day is a struggle to survive. The mundanity of her life is a disease. However, salvation comes in the form of a rogue Magical Girl skulking in an alleyway while carrying a missile launcher. What starts off as a desire to help someone quickly spirals out of control, and Elysia finds herself plunged into a completely different world. A decades-old conspiracy, grudges that run deep, and visitors from beyond the stars make the Diablerie the least of her worries.

Elysia thought that being a Magical Girl meant basking in the public's adoration and vanquishing evil, but she soon learns that evil comes in all different shapes and sizes. And sometimes, in order to cleanse the world, you have to get your hands dirty. Elysia wanted to be a hero, but first and foremost, she wanted to save people. Those two wishes aren't able to coexist.
