Having just graduated middle school and looking forward to a summer full of reading, Nolan White is caught off-guard when he hears about an old urban legend centered on his very small town! Someone has buried a stash of "Indian gold" somewhere in Larson, South Carolina, and nobody has been able to find it in generations. What he wouldn't give to be just like one of his favorite fictional detectives by being the one to discover the truth! Unfortunately, his anxiety makes that impossible.

Or, almost impossible. Taking inspiration from Amaranth Jones, his favorite kid detective series about a girl who solves the mysteries of her own small town, he dresses up as a girl himself. Only by playing a character can he find the courage to confront the people hiding the truth about his hometown's history. When that truth turns out to be more devious than he'd imagined, will he risk revealing he's nothing more than a scared boy to expose the crooks responsible?
