Iseult is dead, murdered by her father in his efforts to ascend to godhood. His efforts fail, leaving her a lingering and lonely soul, forced to forge a new purpose in the afterlife. Iseult discovers in a shocking revelation that godhood requires the soul-corrupting sacrifice of a family member by the god-initiate in order to attain magic. This sends her on a campaign to save other souls from this fate, defying the gods and forcing the purification of their souls upon them. To this end she devises a radical plan to create a god-messiah to lead the gods to their ruination. However, once born, her messiah Mejias has her own discordant ideas. Iseult must grapple with the unresolved attachments anchoring her to the land of the living and hindering her from reincarnating, all while navigating the complicated and ideologically fraught relationship between guardian and child. An especially difficult task when the being she has created is so much more powerful than herself.
