The Town layout, as a D&D player/DM, i love to make/nerd-over these~
Love the mayor's manor layout, show's that the town was either added to the mansion or built after it. Being farthest from the ocean, but having the largest walls close to the landmass is a good show~
6 & 4 being outside the wall is questionable, but make some sense depending on the larger states-of-war/"wildlife"
hmm, the "harbor" part of town, has a wall separating it from the docks... historic change?
The clans district raises questions about their position in town. Controlling the only bridge... did clan-family's they come after, and demand an in-town position? is "clan" a war-group non-family?
Platinum Helm Guild, nicely named, undoubtedly very rich. but 'separated' from the town... conflicts? separated by a mid-town river, and the clans district... needs another bridge or enlarging the other.
The Main District, The City Square, Heart of the town~ have to enjoy city's that weren't built on a grid, both for their madness of first-person, as well as the hell that is trying to navigate... but oh are they fun to make!
So, my two main concerns, Why is there no road leading south? and is that distance-scale supposed to be Meters or Miles!? because neither of them fit with the size of city i'm looking at... either the entire city is 600meters (a running track, is 400meters around) from the farthest bridge to city-wall or the city is longer than the united states!?
Hmm Beastkin, where's the discrimination-fanatic... and is there slavery? Slave-merchant!
Love nerding~ thank you for the map and story!
Fayhelm is an expanding city, hence why 4 & 6 aren't in the city walls yet. The south part of Fayhelm is reinforced because of the Mayor's Manor. The Mayor doesn't want a road to be placed so close to his home.
Also, the scaling is kind of an easter egg since the person who made the map is bad at Distance scaling. This is the map that they are given, so Owen quickly remarks on it. Actually, most of the things you mentioned will be criticized by Owen. He eventually chops it up to the city expanding.
@CautiousTitan City Expansion is always a great reason~ it also is good for a merchant-based story because they need to deconstruct/expand/move the walls, resources and manpower create needs for merchants of all kinds. Having the mayor careful about the main-road not being directly on his home is a very good thing~ highways get loud! also town-defense.
Some of these questions can/should only be answered in-story, and others are just city-history/future (spoiler alert) for what may be happening in the town.
Know many people with difficulties distance-scaling maps (i'm one of them) it's why i always make a note to check it... sadly that long list of thing to watch out for causes map-making take a long time...
@SnafuSam About size of the city, actually town near me had once walls around. It was only 300 meters diameter (7 ha area) and was home for around 800 to 1000 people at that time, so I think its fairly reasonable town map. For small town only one bridge is enough, especially if we need to build it really high for river shipping.
It is also normal to have even more buildings outside walls. When there is a danger of siege they are usually destroyed by... defenders before enemy comes.
And damn, this map looks good.
https://watabou.itch.io/medieval-fantasy-city-generator for those of you who want to make nice maps real easy!
Wow this is a surprisingly well drawn map
It definitely does. Assuming our glorious CEO is gonna base here for some time, expect to be near the waterfront a lot at some point, so I hope your docks are ready for writing!
Not showing the maps anymore
Muito boa a novel até agora . Espero que continue assim .
Are the various maps and other image links ever going to be fixed ?
Awesome map what did you use to make it?
