Although that forest was quite dense, Leon decided to make his water reservoir near his new camp. He would find a way to make the water from several spots run toward his tank, so it was fine. Although it was a pain to start from scratch, it was necessary.
While Leon was digging the hole and thinking of making a bathtub made of earth, suddenly, the entire island started to shake.
“Woah, Woah… what the hell is going on now?”
It was an earthquake; it was so intense that Leon even fell on the ground. Several coconuts and bananas also fell, but Leon was more worried about what would come next. An earthquake near the ocean was never a good sign…
“Please don’t come, please don’t come…”
That island was pretty close to the epicenter of the earthquake, so pretty soon it came… a tsunami.
“Jesus Christ… I’m screwed.”
Coming from the west, Leon felt intense winds before he could see even the wave. He looked around, trying to find a sturdy tree that could endure the impact. Unfortunately, not a single tree looked that sturdy. They seemed pretty young as if it wasn’t the first time a tsunami had hit that island. Regardless, Leon hugged with all his strength the largest tree he found. He had to endure the strength of the ocean, and he couldn’t let the water push himself, or he would die.
As if those trees were sticks, several of them got knocked down by the wave. Leon didn’t waste time thinking that those were literally the trees that could only produce the fruits and the water he could eat and drink. When the wave hit him, he only thought about his family. The wave tried to push him, but he endured using Strong Arms. Several trees hit him while being pushed by the wave, bones started to break at an alarming rate, but Leon endured it all while seeing the image of his family engraved in his mind. They were all smiling, but then the image in his head started to burn, the more pain he felt, the more the image burned. Leon didn’t want to think about it; he avoided thinking of that possibility… but it was clear that monsters had invaded the world and were destroying his hometown, his homeland. That much was clear because he didn’t see a single airplane or ship in three weeks, even though he was supposed to be near their routes.
Eventually, the trees stopped hitting him and breaking his bones, but the ocean was still trying to push him. Much to his surprise, several trees endured the wave, and after five minutes, it finally stopped. Almost every single bone in his lower body had been broken, despite having the chance to sit down and breath, Leon didn’t do it, because that would only cause him pain. He decided to wait in that same position for his body to heal, but then… the wind came again.
“Oh, shit…”
It was a bad joke; it had to be… to think that a second wave would come. Leon was exhausted since he used his stamina as much as possible, and now he had to endure the second wave with low health and low stamina. In the end, Leon just clenched his teeth.
Congratulations! The skill Pain Resistance has leveled up. You obtained 01 status points. |

It has been quite a while since the time Leon had leveled up that skill, but he leveled up twice in the next few minutes while the ocean was treating his broken bones pretty badly. Since Leon didn’t have time to fix the positions of his bones, when his body healed, it only recovered a few wounds. The broken bones just stayed like that. As if that wasn’t enough… Leon started to feel hungry. It was the price to heal his body faster, calories…
When the second wave was over, Leon clenched his teeth again and sat down, embracing the pain. He had to fix the positions of his bones as soon as possible, that would be painful, but it couldn’t be helped… that day was one of those bad days everyone has to face now and then…
When Leon was about to start fixing his legs, he heard the wind, and his heart sunk. That was too much… what was the point of all that? Why struggle so much? He was doomed, no one would rescue him, and the chances of him escaping that island were stupidly low… he would have an easier time growing wings. Leon sighed… he never considered himself a mentally weak person, but he felt quite disappointed with himself. After just three weeks alone, he was already about to give up.
“I’m so pathetic…”
Always running away and always choosing the less painful path… always trying to do things to feel good about himself. Pathetic flaws… but thanks to those pathetic flaws that Leon found the strength to hug the tree again. He didn’t want to die in the stomach of a shark; at the very least, he wanted to die out of the ocean. If he had to choose where he wanted to die, he wanted to die in prison, not in the fence. With those thoughts in mind, Leon survived the third wave and stayed on the island.
Several hours had passed since the tsunami; it was night, and Leon was watching the starry sky in the same position he felt after the tsunami ended. The bones of his lower body were still broken, but he didn’t feel like fixing them anytime soon. He just felt like staring at the starry sky that he could see now clearly, even in the middle of the forest… all thanks to the fact that the tsunamis destroyed eighty percent of that island vegetation.
Well, its not just 3 weeks alone, its three weeks alone on a deserted island with monsters in the ocean and dragons in the sky with no way of knowing if anything's waiting for you if you make it off the island.
Mc's done pretty admirably in not going insane yet.
if it was me I would find the sturdiest rope and hang at the start
@BRUH123 Me I would just f*ck the world and try to survive because f*ck the world it wants me dead I live or die trying
He has been quite late in preparing for intruders, only after having attacked.
And he didn't consider natural disasters before at all. I was waiting to see, when a tropical storm would come and blow all his camp away. I think, on such a small island, it is quiet hard to find reliable shelter, one would want to put some serious thought in preparation for the inevitable.
Another thing bugging me is that he hasn't invested a single point in his luck. He is nowhere strong enough to rely on his skills alone to survive. Without luck, he is bound to suffer.
Honestly, I feel that he should have invested a few points in to each of the attributes to a min level. He seemed to have gotten everything except luck up to at least 10 with training, so he could have aimed for 15 with investment. At the very least, he should invest in luck up to 10 or 15 to keep it in line with the attributes he isn't specializing in.
im pretty sure that luck will have very little effect unless sit becomes crazy high numbers. its a persons luck, not the worlds luck. unless it reaches 100 or something, it probably only has effect in slightly improving his chances of gambling
Depends on what luck does. If it is the primary driving force to critical hits or basically anything, then he'll never really get any at 1.
The thing is, we've seen no negative effects to having attributes thus far, so having more doesn't hurt, so having more luck would be a bit more of "good" luck, which he really could use, even if it's not much. Also these kinds of stories occasionally have it so that if certain attributes are massively different or outside of certain ratios, then there is a massive downside: i.e. too much strength with not enough endurance means breaking one's own bones when using that strength; or if the body isn't strong enough, then using too much mana at one time starts to destroy the body.
Haven't seen that in this story yet, but then he hasn't really done a deep dive on the attributes yet, and he basically refuses to raise any attribute he can't train, except mana and recovery.
@BobTheLost
A lot of times luck can influence loot drops as well. So perhaps luck could influence suitcases washing up onto the beach from the plane crash.
@KidBuu699 the only loot drops in this world are the skill books dropped from monsters. Im pretty certain luck affects that but i dont know if it affects other things as well. but i doubt it affects the world comprehensively (maybe if you have a thousand+ luk) and can only affect system created randomness
@drakensji non skill book loot does drop.
While on the island he gets equipment from monsters that he loses, and later when he goes to Japan he gets monster drops, such as slime cores which luck could influence the quality of, and equipment as he does dungeons. If anything equipment from monsters is far more common than skill books. Oh and there is definitely different levels of how powerful of gear drops, which could easily be influenced by luck.
Also, something else luck might influence is the availability of rare items found in the dungeon store by someone. One of the things that is used on him later, came from there, and would definitely be a super rare at that stage of the world, and was probably bought by someone with much higher luck than him.
@BobTheLost
the weapons weren't drops but were the monsters equipment, and since this isnt a video-game then they dont disappear and can be used once you defeat them. I dont think luck would affect the shop because the shops merchandise is determined by what other people discover, so it isnt system controlled. though if they have good luck they will gain more books and higher chance of rare skills so they will eventually end up in the shop, but it isnt determined by the luck of the person buying but of the person selling
@drakensji
the one being from Japan definitely wasn't wearing all of the items that dropped. It might've had the club, but pretty sure the armor was made from it on its death, and it definitely didn't have the sword. Maybe why he hasn't seen too many drops like that is because he doesn't bother increasing his luck, thus has the lowest chance of encountering it happening.
Regarding the shop, all we have is basic information told to us, not observed by him, and that when on the occasion he looks, all the valuable stuff disappears in flashes. He's told that the inventory is based on found items and people buying stuff, but that thing that is used on him is beyond anything the dungeons should have at that time from what we've been shown, and you mean to tell me that, after most of the world has died that people are buying enough expensive items (not even basic keep you alive items) that the inventory flickers when most people are just trying to survive? There is a good chance that the system is adding items to the store, especially when it comes to skill books and items like that thing. Likely, if luck is a factor for this, it'd reduce how much the expensive items flicker and how often rarer items are seen by the person. But, he never actually explores the shop beyond a quick look at it, and he never invests into luck, so it's hard to know for sure.
@BobTheLost
i think you have misunderstood but the shop seems to be connected worldwide. Every dungeon under human influence has the same shop and inventory, and they said that the items in the shop were pretty meh while the actual valuable stuff was being sold face to face
@drakensji
yea, I know it's supposed to be world wide, but by the time he looks at the store, he is probably in the top .1% of the world for wealth, probably the average coinage wealth of people is probably less than 10k because most are trying to survive more than thrive.
Also even if we are told what's in the store is meh, he never goes into it after that to really confirm it, even when he is told that the one thing used on him that is beyond what the world should have came from there. Of course, where that thing came from, might've not been the store, but if it is bought from the store, and neither loot drops, nor the store doesn't add items automatically, then either there is a human or small team on par with Leon on earth that killed whatever had it or there is a human force on earth that didn't want that item but used numbers to get it. Both seem unlikely, though not impossible, but more likely it was a gift, or it was a loot drop that someone sold, or the system added it, of which 2 of those 3 things could have luck influence it.
Honestly, regardless of what luck does, due to some things revealed later, he has a reason to invest into it due to what the investment could enable/disable for the far future, though he will probably still not invest into it, because he is stubborn about weird things at times.
