Things were like day and night, having two experienced knights made hunting ridiculously easy compared to a beginner party or hunting by myself.
The two knights shrugged off the muckrat attacks entirely, their expensive armor making them neigh impervious to near mere. Likewise mine did the same. We didn't bother picking targets at all, just killing everything we spotted. Mowing down muck rats was entertaining but it wasn't getting me levels like before, not to mention only a third of the kills were going to me. The one thing that did shock my guards was the 'space magic' of [inventory]. Seeing was different to hearing rumors after all.
We neared closer to the forest than I had ever been before. Allowing me to appreciate the sheer size of the trees that I had until now just treated as background. Quickly I realized that most of the trees we had been seeing were in fact not the closest ones at all, the trees at the entrance to the forest were actually fairly normal sized. It was just that the forest stretched endlessly for as far as we could see, and the trees appeared increasingly taller the further off they were, the tallest of those we could see must be thirty or more miles away but they were so large they should be over a thousand foot or so for us to see them.
The muck rats became increasingly organized the further we pushed on, encountering massive bands of hundreds. Some appearing to ride overly large rats like steeds as they charged into battle. Muck rats were the dominant species in this area on the plains, but they weren't terribly fearsome as far as monsters went. They had limited strength and intelligence, their only competitive factor being their extremely quick reproduction. Any decently strong monster could dominate entire colonies and kill them in a night, which is why they didn't dare venture too close to the forest region. The beasts here wanted to move farther out, but Tromwell acted like a wall, killing most of them that came too close, so they were wedged between the forest and the city. In fact many frontier cities like Tromwell existed, dotting the entirety of the Eastern side of the kingdom and keeping monsters like the muck rats at bay. Not to mention the land here was attractive, being extremely fertile due to the influence of magic, and the idea of opening new lands was an attractive proposal for dealing with the excessive crowding in the capital.
We were barely five miles out from the forest now, the rats had more access to wood and could now be seen carrying clubs and sharpened sticks. Charging in on giant rats and jousting with their stick-spears, while throwers assaulted us from a distance. But the technology they wielded was all too primitive, breaking easily on our defenses as we slaughtered them with impunity. The guards were fairly adept with their swords, which I supposed was expected of a knight, but it was something that I couldn't help but try to imitate. Turning off my sword mastery to ensure to highest effectiveness from this lesson. I was not worried at all for my safety in these battles, so it was a great opportunity now to watch experienced fighters while simultaneously power leveling my unused classes. Switching each out for a time to ensure an even spread of experience between them, maximizing the skill points I received.
Pretty soon the now familiar light bathed over me, accompanied with the system's voice.
"Why are you doing this!?" He called out angrily and confused. He knew something was wrong with the way I was getting energy and had pleaded with me before to stop so he could figure things out. But I knew exactly what was causing it, and even if he could fix it, I wouldn't want him to.
"System. I'm going to keep leveling, so why don't you shut up about it." Starting to get annoyed at the constant mental screaming whenever I leveled up.
"Y-you rude man! Barbarian! I've never so insulted in my life!" The system ranted on, while I ignored him.
"Look, I know this is going to get you in trouble, but I'm not going to give up on leveling. What's even the point of a system if I don't make use of it?" The system was silent for a moment before responding.
"It's not just me that's going to get in trouble. You will too, there's no way around that fact."
This suddenly sounded a lot different than what I had heard.
"How does that happen? Surely I can't be punished for your mistakes, that doesn't make sense."
"You fool. Who's body do you think I'm inhabiting right now. I'm your system, how do you think they're going to get to me. Through you. "
"What kind of punishment are we talking about here?"
"Torture probably, and if that doesn't work. Death."
The consequences were suddenly a lot more personal, but I still wasn't going to throw away my benefits. This was the only thing separating me from a life of mediocrity. I decided to face the conversation with more seriousness.
"Even so. I'm not going to stop."
"Then we are doomed." System said solemnly.
This guy's negativity was starting to get on my nerves.
"So, how is it going to happen. This certain doom thing."
"They will try to deal with it through the followers here I expect. Even though we aren't in a dominant position on this planet, almost all the leadership among beastkin are devout followers. "
Something that's good to know. If beastkin were all I needed to be careful of then my situation wasn't all that bad.
"If that fails, then I believe they'll move onto more direct methods. They'll send others like you. It's too expensive to send powerful beings across worlds, but they can certainly send experienced ones. Resetting the levels of elites and sending them towards us."
I clicked my tongue. That part really did sound like trouble.
"Well System, looks like you and me are in this together. Let's do our best."
"Didn't you hear what I just told you?! This is all completely avoidable, for Goddess' sake just stop leveling!" The system wailed out despairing.
I kindof get why he's being like this, but I also think he's being dumb. On one hand, he does not know what the solution is to his situation. It could just be "do more work for us and you keep everything" It's not a big enough issue to warrant him dying and getting replaced. On the other hand, he now definitely knows assassins are going to come for him. He's being very arrogant to think that just because he gets double attributes he'll win against teams of enemies that can level. Especially people that reset. They can plan builds around killing him. They won't be restricted by feudal duties and can spend as much time as they want leveling. Who's to say the goddess can't send people back in time in other parts of the world, specifically to kill him?
This guy seems to not be a mental giant. Might want to drop some points in int because he is making a terrible choice for really no benefit.
@DeathSolstice
I get what your saying about the exponential stats. What I'm thinking is that if having that many stats will be able to fight against an entire party of people. Demon king vs hero party. Nothing he has so far supports a team, so at the very least he has almost no protection against an agility specialist assassinating everyone he knows.
I don't see a reason why the goddess would mobilize an army against him, since she knows how exp works.
I don't think your point about mages makes sense, the transmigrators would have a much easier time becoming mages. Also why would him starting a religion make it easier to hunt the hunters? There is no indication that him starting a religion would give him god like powers. he can't gift masses of people hero detection devices, he's con/physical specialized.
@DeathSolstice
1. It doesn't matter if if the people he knows are killed? Half of this story is the s*x scenes.
2. The system never says "Forces" so I don't know why your emphasizing that. You like even say the Goddess will probably send assassins. My point was that the Beastkin aren't going to send a million man army.
3. I'm assuming experienced = people familiar with magic. So like, send a bunch of reincarnators that can already use magic or get a primer on it from the Goddess.
4. That doesn't work, you'd have to broadcast that as a tenet that staring at mirrors is bad; you can't catch experienced reincarnators with that. Also, the protagonist is a CON specialist, not a INT of CHA how is he going to brainwash the entire human world within a reasonable enough timeline.
5. From an earlier chapter, the systems are usually run on a per realm basis and self sufficient. It has never been stated that the Goddess personal takes energy from the system, only that she tried to send a reincarnators here to help her followers gain territory. Does the goddess gain power from her priests? We have no idea how she gets power or what kind of power she gets from having followers. There is no indication that I can see that the person System used by the protagonist is capable of passively extracting energy from his followers.
@DeathSolstice You are right how the system does mention forces and other reincarnated but you both are taking a silly mindless stroke story way too seriously, and I know that's rich coming from me being how I argued how this sh*t of a MC should suffer some to build character. Either way you both might be better served reading something else for a bit to calm down cause this guy only gets worse.
In his limited defense, ifnthe goddess is too inept to get his soul done right the first time then it's unlikely she can throw too much at him at once.. plus while the assassins level up one attribute at a time he will still be leveling by double. Its a skill race he can always win
He is about as intelligent as an average human (uneducated peasant), and his wisdom is lower than that. You expect the fool to put points into wisdom?
@pincho I agree that his decision is not bad. The goddess seems to really care about saving resources as him just using double the amount he should inspired this whole thing, so it's unlikely that she'll spend that much resources on getting rid of him. She'll send just enough but just enough won't be enough because our MC got double the stats and classes. And double the stats doesn't mean that he's just twice as strong because of the whole expontial growth thing, he'll be more than twice as strong and he has been leveling many skills. The Goddess expects him to be some just shmuck that just started leveling.
She definitely won't be sending anyone back in time as that must cost a lot of resources and won't be worth it. And can she even do that considering how it's said that they have so little power over this realm? The MC would probably like to rebell eventually against the Goddess anyways to gain freedom and not have to do whatever she wants him to.
@nobuddy And about a solution to the problem... the system hasn't been giving any compromises other than to stop leveling completely for now. But stop leveling for how long? Until they fix the problem? What if they can't fix it after like a couple months while the MC doesn't level and then just decide to get rid of the MC as a "fix"?
@nobuddy Wow I forgot this was a thing. I vaguely remeber dropping it after the MC was shocked that a girl hated him for raping her and was confused why she tried to have him killed.
@Fafulin Yeah, so, what are you reading?
@Cheetachaser https://www.scribblehub.com/series/492531/godsforsaken/

https://www.scribblehub.com/series/142328/fighting-to-be-kind-in-a-cultivation-world/
https://www.scribblehub.com/series/121869/dripfed/
Are my free go to right now. Also been buying a lot of kindle books
@Fafulin Yeah, I read a series on Kindle, come back and catch up on here, rinse repeat.
Thanks for the reqs.
@Cheetachaser I been reading a lot of Michale Dalton (emperyan series) you can't go wrong with M.E Thorne and I am ashamed to admit but also been reading Logan Jacobs and Eric Vall books but everyone knows they are the same author lol.
@Fafulin Do not be ashamed. Be honest, shame is for those that lie to themselves and others.
Be yourself, there will always be those that accept you for who you are.
So this is his decision? Even while knowing enemies will come to get him? Then I better see him go out much much more and level the freak out like a maniac so nobody can f*ck with him. I'm more worried on the people around him lmao who knows what his enemies will do, what methods will they use makes me nervous now.
This guy's negativity was starting to get on my nerves.
Your ignorance starting to get on my nerves too.
sí, necesitas ser enemigo de un dios? es realmente estúpido, puede calmarse y tomarse las cosas con calma, ¿cuál es su prisa? ¿Él quiere matar a un dios? or be the new god?
Lmaoo good luck dude, let the games begin I guess
Did I miss something? The mc knows how he’s getting all this energy, but the system itself doesn’t. I don’t remember the author ever explaining this in the story so how does the mc know, but the readers don’t? Unless I missed it somehow.
So the Goddess is gonna send assassins to kill the Hero she set up with a system because he won't stop leveling just because his system is running out of juice? I fail to follow the logic here... Unless she wants to pretend it's not her fault and sweep the Hero under the rug, nevermind the reason she needed him in the first place. He should just tell the system to tell the goddess to hook the system up with a better power source instead of getting her panties in a twist when someone is trying to do what they are supposed to.
