Third Arc (Fallen Heart) - 206. Sleepless Night I
The moon was high in the sky, casting a silver light over Luminus City. The streets were empty except for a few stray cats and dogs scrounging for food. They had managed to find the poison and destroy it.
Now, she had changed into her simple sleep gown and sat on the side of her bed in White Moon Castle, her feet barely touching the cold stone floor. Her hair cascaded down her back in waves. The events of the night had left her drained, and she longed for Angel's return. He had gone to the study to check on some things before they went to bed, and she had been waiting for him for what felt like an eternity.
But of all that happened that day, what had surprised her most was the servants’ and soldiers’ lack of surprise when they arrived at the castle. It was as if they were used to Angel's teleportation skill. He had warned her that not everyone knew about it, and only his trusted subordinates were aware of this ability. As a result, Rose had to be careful not to wander around the castle freely as she usually did. She could only access the study room and the chamber.
As Rose sat alone in her bed chamber, her mind and heart heavy with the weight of the day's events. There were a lot of things that happened that day. She had gone to battle, witnessed rebellion, and killed a former friend at her own hand. The room was silent, except for the soft rustle of her silk gown as she shifted on the bed. She closed her eyes and tried to still the roiling emotions within her, but it was a difficult task. She couldn’t calm herself down.
Ivetta's face haunted her, her once-friend's features twisted in a sneer of betrayal. They had shared laughter and wine together, but now Rose had ended Ivetta's life with her own hands. It was a satisfying revenge, but also a bitter pill to swallow, but she knew it had to be done. Ivetta had turned against her, had sought to harm innocent lives, had done so many crimes, and had ultimately caused her father's death.
Lost in her thoughts, Rose barely registered the sound of the door opening, but the footsteps that followed soon pulled her back to reality. It was Angel, her trusted ally and confidant. He had been with her every step of the way, guiding her through the difficult times and offering his support when she needed it most.
"Why aren't you sleeping yet?" Angel's voice broke through the silence of the room.
"I'm waiting for you to come back," Rose replied, offering him a small smile.
Angel sat next to her on the bed, his gaze fixed on her. "You shouldn't have to do it," he said, taking her hand gently on his own.
Rose looked down at their intertwined fingers, her mind racing with questions. She had been wondering about Angel's abilities for some time now, particularly his ability to teleport. It explained a lot about the previous war and how he had been able to move from one location to another with ease.
"You owe me an explanation," Rose said, her voice firm.
"About my teleportation spell?" Angel guessed, his eyes never leaving hers.
"Yes, why didn't you tell me?" Rose asked, her frustration evident in her voice.
Angel took a deep breath, his gaze turning introspective. "It's not something I can just tell anyone,” He said after a moment's pause. "I have to be careful who I trust with that information."
Rose frowned, her confusion growing. "But why keep it a secret from me?" she asked. That spell explained what happened in the previous war and how he was able to move to lead the war from one place to another.
Angel's expression softened, and he squeezed her hand gently. "I didn't want you to feel like I was keeping things from you," he said. "But more than that, I didn't want you to worry. The less you know, the less you have to worry about,” he explained.
"Then what made you decide to show it to me?" she asked him, her voice barely above a whisper.
