I just so happened to have found out about a species of snake known as xenodermus javanicus, which is also known as the dragon snake and happens to be black in coloration. Anybody claiming that the connection with this snake and the black scaled snake lady, with dragon like features, is merely a coincidence that the author is only just now noticing and capitalizing on are to be disregard as hearsay and heresy. I totally had this all planned out from the start and didn't just pick Mi'ara's scale color because I thought black was a cool color.

I'm pretty sure I'm in a dream right now. Currently I seem to be floating in a black void. It feels rather.  .  . serene. My thoughts slowly drift back to my old world. As I do so the black void swirls into my old apartment.

I never had a good relationship with my parents. The first opportunity I got I moved out and into this apartment. My pay was never that great so I never was able to move out. It's kinda nostalgic now... After experiencing this life I'd probably take my old life back if I was given the option. While it wasn't glamorous and work was kinda stressful, I at least wasn't constantly living in fear of some massive underground organization coming to get me. I wonder if I can get a beer since this is a lucid dream. I probably won't be able to experience drinking one from a can ever again, considering the time period of my current world.

I move over to the small kitchen area and open the fridge. Instead of finding a sparesly populated set of wire racks, a mass of rolling, bubbling flesh comes pouring out. Quite frankly I'm horrified. I try to move to get away, but find I can't. No matter how much I struggle I can only move my head. Looking around for something that can help me, I only find more flesh pouring from out of cracks in the walls and ceiling. As I look on with an impending sense of doom I see the flesh slowly consolidate. It gets bigger and bigger, the walls and floors meld into the meat until it becomes impossible to tell were the meat ends and the apartment begins. The scenery around me grows much bigger to accommodate, or maybe I've simply grown smaller, either way the grotesque blob becomes impossible large. Even if I had a gun it would be ineffective. There's simply too much flesh. Eventually the meat forms something like a head. As whatever I'm looking at adds details to its head, it comes out looking like an attempt Picasso made at drawing a dragon. When its done it turns and opens its mouth . . . Mouths, oh god the mouths. So many maws cover its monstrous form.

"e N i H i l a v E" It shrieks with each and every row of tooth filled orifices.

It's face, which looked like abstract art meant for a plane with only two dimensions before,  doubles when it faces me. Eyes and eyes all turn to focus on to me. Each and every one of the orb reflects in it a still beating human heart. Tendrils come up from the floor and hold open my mouth. I still try to struggle in vain at the horrifyingly beautiful creature before me. A tentacle comes forth from its mouth and enters mine. Once inside I can feel it slowly, painfully scrape the roof of my mouth.

After what felt like excruciating hours and hours, it finally digs through what must be the bottom of my skull. It pulls back and I can feel it change shape in my mouth. Then it spikes directly into my brain AND I AM ENLIGHTENED/TAUGHT/GUISED. I REALIZE THE BENEVOLENCE/KINDNESS/CARE I'VE SO DESPERATELY TRIED TO SHY AWAY FROM. I AM VAULED/TREASURED/LOVED.

--------

When I arise I find a peacefully sleeping Mi'ara next to me. It seems the dragon parts have receded which is good as explaining those would be difficult in the capital. Other than that I've been imparted with some information with that has all the impact of a bomb shell.

First of lets start processing this information with what's easiest to digest, Mi'ara condition. She is fine. The reason for her passing out was simply her running out of mana. She never used magic before so of course dragon magic would eat up her entire reserves. The dragon parts apparently sprout up because the dragon beastmen bred into the N'esk tribe and the dragon blood flows thick in her.

Next moving on to something bigger, the conditions and differences of dragon magic. First affinity matters, like a lot. If you don't have the affinity for a dragon spell, you can't cast it, period. Second you need a special "something" in order to cast dragon magic. Usually only dragons could cast it, but due to some twist of fate, a case of convergent evolution occured and the dragon beast people developed a very similar "something". That great personage just so happened to give me "something" as well. As for my affinities they're support, neutral, and one even that great personage hadn't seen before, lightning. I probably have this apparently new element because I created the lightning spell after first coming here. Mi'ara has fire and earth alignments. As a side note dragon magic is WAY stronger than normal magic like I thought. It can even power through anti-magic metal.

Saving the biggest bomb for last, is the identity of that great personage. That beautiful creature was a god, specially the god of dragons. In the game's scenario, the existence of gods was rather ambiguous. It was never confirmed or denied whether they actually existed. The reason for the god's inactivity was apparently a big ass war loooooong before humans came around. That war caused the extinction of the dragons. The god also revealed what dragons ARE. They are basically lizard monsters that have undergone defilement under the effects of leftover mana from dragon spells. This causes numerous physical changes that shape the creature to be closer to the dragon god's resplendent image. It seems that the god is quite pleased with the spots I've made already and decided to reward me, as the encounter heavily defiled me as well as gave me that "something" albeit my changes will be milder.

The god of dragons also asked me to do something, which was to free the last dragon encased in ice. Apparently it was an important general in the war. Due to a highly effective curse in the later stages of the war, the general was put in the beserk state he is now. At that time there was no more healing aligned dragons so they put him in ice to seal him until another was made. Of course all other dragons died out so he was left there. Now that I have healing aligned dragon magic I can fix him up.

That'll have to wait though as I have other more demanding tasks, like collecting materials for a mana restoration potion so I don't have to drag a passed out lamia around.
