“Brian, it’s morning. Wake up.” I heard someone calling me as they shook me lightly.
I instantly recognized their voice so I didn’t even need to open my eyes to see who came to wake me up. I got up to a sitting position before opening my eyes. I was a bit afraid of punching her, but Laura helped me use telekinesis to confirm her location.
“Good morning, Alice.” I greeted her before opening my eyes.
She was wearing her maid dress, again. I think the last time I saw her wear it was when she snuck into my room to sleep with me.
“... how did you know it was me? Before you even opened your eyes?” She asked.
“Your voice. It’s not that difficult to recognize. And any of the maids would address me as Lord Brian.” I told her.
“Oh, I see. Then next time I’ll try to change my voice.” Alice decided.
Shouldn’t you go ‘Oh, so you know my voice that well?’. Well then again, we are talking about Alice here. She might not have the tact for that.
“I think you should keep your voice as it is. Even if you can fool me with your voice, there are other things that will give you away.” I told her. Well, most of those things I will only notice after I open my eyes.
“... humph.” She pouted. “You should at least make it seem like I got you.”
“Yeah, you are going to have to try harder than that.” I told her. “So, when will breakfast be ready?”
“We still have some time.” Alice responded.
“Then perhaps you should change. I need to get ready as well.” I said.
“... fine. I will.” She said as she walked out of my room.
… Well, I always say, waking up to a cute girl is 1000 times better than waking up to an alarm clock.
As I was going through my morning routine, I decided to pull open my daily packs. I sacrificed most of my packs to Christina yesterday, so today they will be all for me. Well I might use a Machine Conversion Factory on Christina’s Overdrive or something, but mostly they will be for me.
Oh, yeah. There is also Upstart Goblin and Emblem of Dragon Destroyer. I should activate them as well.
(Master, Emblem of Dragon Destroyer is still on cooldown so you cannot activate it yet.) Laura warned.
(Is it? But it’s the next day. Well, I guess I did wake up kind of late yesterday.) I recalled. (Well, I should still use Upstart.)
I pulled it out and said: “Upstart Goblin,” to activate it.
I looked as the ghostly goblin dropped 5 coins, all of them shining gold.
5 gold coins from Upstart? What are the chances of that?
Well, I won’t calculate that. At least not now. The packs are waiting. And as these ones are all for me, I can choose the sets.
And I want some LoBY today. And maybe some Magic Ruler. And perhaps even some Flaming Eternity. With 14 tokens, I can open 5, 5 and 4 of each. Unless I get a Pot.
Well, anyway. Let’s begin.
Use a ‘Pack token’ to open 1 pack of ‘Legend of Blue Eyes White Dragon’ |
[Yes] [No] |
LoBY 1
Yami, Ray & Temperature, Petit Angel ,Forest, Trial of Nightmare,
Machine Conversion Factory, Root Water, Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Flame Ghost
Got a Machine Conversion Factory and a spare Red-Eyes. That’s a great start.
Next.
LoBY 2
Dark Gray, Enchanting Mermaid, Turtle Tiger, Mountain, Petit Dragon, Armaill, M-Warrior #1, Uraby, Fissure
… trash. Well, Fissure is somewhat nice, but I have like 4 or 5 of them already.
Next.
LoBY 3
Mystical Sheep #2, Drooling Lizard, Dragon Treasure, Fireyarou, Larvas, Umi, Vile Germs, Sand Stone, Flower Wolf
More Dragon Treasure. And the rest are basically useless. And I’ve never actually used Dragon Treasure. Perhaps I should install one onto Blue-Eyes. Well then again, I can’t really summon Blue-Eyes on a regular basis, so … I’ll think about it.
Next.
LoBY 4
Sogen, Violet Crystal, Nemuriko, One-Eyed Shield Dragon, Tripwire Beast,
Uraby, Electro-Whip, Hitotsu-Me Giant, Charubin the Fire Knight
Well, nothing here.
(Correction. You didn’t have Charubin the Fire Knight, so that could be considered something.) Laura said.
(Well… Yeah, I guess it is better than nothing.) I agreed.
One more LoBY before I change sets.
LoBY 5
Mammoth Graveyard, Hitotsu-Me Giant, Armaill, Man Eater, Basic Insect,
Hinotama, Laser Cannon Armor, Dark Hole, Reaper of the Cards
Oh. A Dark Hole. That’s not bad. But it is dangerous. I need to be extremely careful if I ever use it. Other than that, it’s just meh. And that is why this set is so … strange. It has some of the best spells ever printed, but the monsters suck ass.
Sorry about that, you all powerful normal monsters.
Too bad I only got one Machine Conversion Factory from all of those packs. Well, one is better than none. And I suppose I can just send the Overdrive over to Christina later, now that we have that trade thingy.
Well, now on towards the Magic Ruler.

MRL 1
House of Adhesive Tape, Kotodama, Metal Fish, Mystic Plasma Zone,
Snake Fang, Dark Zebra, Rising Air Current, Senju of the Thousand Hands, Peacock
Plasma Zone and Air Current. Always good to have plenty of those in stock. But what about Senju? I think I have some copies of it already, but I never really considered what it could do. If it can just get me more ritual monsters, it will massively boost the speed at which I can do the ritual challenge. I need to summon one at some point.
Well, that can wait for now. Next.
MRL 2
Performance of Sword, Rising Air Current, Hungry Burger, Luminous Spark,
Giant Turtle Who Feeds on Flames, Flash Assailant, Commencement Dance, Mystic Tomato, Sonic Bird
Extra copies of ritual monsters and attribute boosters. Tomato… well I almost want to eat it in the burger. But Sonic Bird is more ritual support, so that is nice. It can help me get Ritual Spells. Even though generally the monsters are the bigger problem.
Not a bad pack. Next.
MRL 3
Liquid Beast, Eternal Rest, Sonic Bird, High Tide Gyojin, Snake Fang,
Metal Fish, Giant Turtle Who Feeds on Flames, Flying Kamakiri #1, Ceremonial Bell
Well, another Sonic Bird is something. But not that great.
Next.
MRL 4
Toll, Chorus of Sanctuary, Eatgaboon, Luminous Spark, Liquid Beast,
Fairy's Hand Mirror, Eternal Rest, UFO Turtle, Final Destiny
Chorus of Sanctuary is actually nice to have. Boosting the defense of my party with one card is useful, as I learned when dealing with the wyverns. UFO Turtle isn’t terrible, but it’s not nearly as good as it was in the card game. And Final Destiny is still not something I want to use.
Next.
MRL 5
Crab Turtle, Hungry Burger, Peacock, Queen Bird, Ceremonial Bell, Kotodama, Horn of Light, Giant Rat, Eatgaboon
Oh, I got the Crab Turtle. I think that is all of the common ritual monsters from this set. I mean there is Relinquished, but that thing is Ultra Rare in this set, so good luck in getting that.
Well, Magic Ruler didn’t do me dirty, but I was hoping for more. Perhaps I had too high expectations.
For the last four packs, let’s do some Flaming Eternity. I don’t recall opening this pack previously, so this will be a first.

FET 1
Fulfillment of the Contract, Centrifugal Field, Good Goblin Housekeeping, Firebird, Space Mambo,
Catnipped Kitty, Divine Dragon Ragnarok, Re-Fusion, Brain Jacker
Fulfillment of the Contract and Re-Fusion sound nice. They might see some use if a ritual or fusion monster were to fall in battle. Actually, would a person fused with a monster count as a fusion monster for Re-Fusion? I feel like they should. But then again, they would get banished after two hours, so I can’t really do that.
Then there is the Brain Jacker. It doesn’t work on people, but I should be able to bring wild beasts under my control with it, so it’s good.
Sadly, Good Goblin Housekeeping doesn’t give me any pack tokens. I can use it to turn pack tokens into reprint tokens and vice versa, but I like the amount of tokens I have at the moment. I guess the reprint packs do have more cards, so perhaps moving some tokens over wouldn’t be a terrible idea.
Next.
FET 2
Chu-Ske the Mouse Fighter, The Big March of Animals, The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion,
The Earth - Hex-Sealed Fusion, Whirlwind Prodigy, Flame Ruler, Blade Rabbit, Elemental Burst, Meteor of Destruction
Two different Hex-Sealed Fusions. That’s not bad. They can fit into some fusion summons, so having them is not bad at all.
Meteor of Destruction is, well, destructive. I’m not sure if it is even safe to use.
Next.
FET 3
Insect Knight, Good Goblin Housekeeping, Mecha-Dog Marron, Space Mambo, Chu-Ske the Mouse Fighter,
Threatening Roar, Poison Fangs, Deck Devastation Virus, Spell Absorption
Spell Absorption is nice. Deck Devastation Virus is not worth the risk of releasing a deadly virus. Poison Fangs might get installed at some point. And Insect Knight is a decent beater.
But Threatening Roar though. That could be super good if I set it on myself and have an attack targeted at me be the activation condition. It should stun all who try to attack me for a short time.
Well one more before the reprints. GO!
FET 4
Hand of Nephthys, Divine Dragon Ragnarok, Fulfillment of the Contract, Maji-Gire Panda, The Earth - Hex-Sealed Fusion,
Rescue Cat, The Dark - Hex-Sealed Fusion, Blade Rabbit, Chiron the Mage
Rescue Cat is cute and was used in some decks, but I don’t think it’s great for me. Hex-Sealed Fusions are still nice, even if these are second copies. And Chiron the Mage might be useful as well.
In all honesty, Flaming Eternity didn’t treat me too bad. Not amazing either, but good enough.
Now the reprints. And that shall be Dark Beginning 1. Like always.

DB1 1
Dust Tornado, Numinous Healer, Infinite Dismissal, Curse of the Masked Beast, Soul Release, Toon World, Grand Tiki Elder,
Left Leg of the Forbidden One, Senju of the Thousand Hands, Electric Snake, Shining Abyss, Karate Man
A repeat Exodia piece. Another Senju and Dust Tornado as well. Honestly, not that great. Everything is just ok. Well, one more try.
DB1 2
Jar of Greed, Type Zero Magic Crusher, Backup Soldier, Messenger of Peace, Polymerization, Polymerization, Nimble Momonga,
Dancing Fairy, Bombardment Beetle, Right Arm of the Forbidden One, Invader of the Throne, Cure Mermaid
Another repeat Exodia piece. Double Poly. Dancing Fairy is still good. I think Cure Mermaid should be as well, but I’ve just never used it. Nimble Momonga isn’t that bad either.
But, there is also a Jar. And Jar means another reprint token.
(I’ll use the leftover sleeves from yesterday, so we only need 10 sacrifices.) Laura said to me.
5x Zombie Tiger, 4x Vilepawn Archfiend, Vile Germs
(Thanks Laura.) I thanked her as I pulled out the Jar of Greed in a toploader.
Would you like to consume 1 ‘toploader’ ‘Jar of Greed’ to increase your daily Reprint tokens by 1? |
[Yes] [NO] |
Yes, I want to do it.
Daily Reprint token number increased by 1. Total is now 3. |
Perfect. Now I just need to open up one more pack. Let’s go.
DB1 3
Gamble, Mirror Wall, DNA Surgery, Messenger of Peace, Gravekeeper's Servant, Mystic Plasma Zone, Relinquished,
Hysteric Fairy, Jinzo #7, Flying Kamakiri #1, Flash Assailant, Slot Machine
Relinquished. That’s nice. I don’t think I have the ritual spell for it, but I can probably get the spell with Sonic Bird. I might actually be able to go all the way to the first reward of the ritual challenge with all the ritual support I have.
Other than that, everything is just a repeat. Well, I still got a great set of cards today, so no complaining.
I did the rest of my morning routine, before heading to the dining room for breakfast.
“Brian, wait for me.” I heard Alice call me just after I left my room.
I stopped and turned around to see Alice running up to me. She was dressed in a simple green dress today. She must really like green as the dress she wore to our date was also green. Well, that one was a lot more detailed than this one, with all the embroidery.
“Good morning, Alice. Do you want to walk to the dining room together?” I asked her, acting as if she wasn’t the one to wake me up.
“Yes, let’s go together.” She responded. “But why did you say good morning? Didn’t you say that already?”
“Well, maid Alice and miss Alice should be two different people, so I thought I would say good morning again.” I told her in a quiet voice. “You know, just in case someone is spying on us.”
“Oh, I see. But I don’t think anyone would actually tell Father. Or notice the small inconsistency.” Alice said.
“Then I won’t do it next time. Well, I probably will, but do you mind if I say good morning to you multiple times?” I asked.
“No. I like it.” Alice responded.
“Brian, do you have any plans for today?” Christina asked me during breakfast.
“Yes. I need to go see Lucia.” I answered. I haven’t spoken with her in a few days, as I was in the dungeon.
“Can I come with you?” Alice asked.
“Sure.” I answered.
“Yes! Another date with Brian.” Alice got excited.
“This is not a date.” I warned her. “We are making travel plans, not going around shopping.”
“But we are going out together, so it’s a date.” Alice reasoned.
“Well, if you want to call it a date. I just don’t think it is one.” I told her.
“Should I change to a fancier outfit for our date?” Alice asked.
“It’s not a date. It’s adventuring business. So if you do change, make sure it’s something easy to move in.” I told her.
“Sure. I’ll do that then.” Alice responded.
After that, we finished our breakfast in peace.
I like the new text saying what each card is after the card itself is shown, makes it a bit easier to keep track of the cards. Also are those previous toploaders of Pot of Greed and Jar of Greed still on cooldown?
Okay, so I clearly need to add an author's note about the Pot of Greed situation. If they are consumed by the skill, they cannot be reused. They go bye-bye. (As in they disappear.) This is because normal use of them doesn't increase the daily limit. It only gives the tokens. This would lead to activating Pot of Greed daily being the same as Brian getting +2 daily tokens and that is why I added that feature. I just don't want to deal with the hassle of writing, "I activate 3 copies of Pot of Greed." every day. And that would also lead to cooldown problems, where Brian might not be able to activate them every day.
But good to hear you like the cards being written as well. I didn't do it for a long time as it takes some time and I was lazy. But then I have commenters that actually go through and write down the cards anyway (crystalkalem), so I just did it myself.
@nro_8 if nothing else, the fact that no one knows what Pot of Greed does, makes it very consistent with the jokes.
@nro_8 If I had that Tomato Monster. I would flex to all Adventurers about how a tomato is better then a bunch of untrained people who know nothing of how dangerous the world is
"Yes, look at my tomato demon. It is stronger than any of you."
"Sir, you are under arrest for summoning a demonic tomato."
@nro_8 Me: “Fine! Demonic Tomato, beat the sh*t out of the police!” That day, the Tomato Lord rose to be feared within the nation.
Rescue cat isn't useful? HoW dAre YoU DEny thE FLUFF!!!!!!!
It's a great card. I just said it isn't great for Brian. Well, he could use it as a plushie, or just as a cute pet. But let's be honest here, if Brian ever summons it, one of the girls will talk him into handing it over, like Christina did with Cat's Ear Tribe.
Thanks for the chapter.
I like the additional text for the cards. The cards can be difficult to read on mobile, so the text helps when you immediately reference something. Mind you, can't really see what the cards are supposed to do either, but that's fine, as you reference their relevant effects, if the card becomes relevant, or give them something the card might not initially have.
That's a great point. I never really considered how small the pictures are for mobile, as I barely ever look at my own series on mobile. I do use a tablet sometimes, but you can see them just fine on a tablet, but probably not on mobile.
@nro_8 if I go horizontal with it, it's fine I think, but I prefer just holding it the normal vertical. Unfortunately, due to how scribblehub has the styling, the mobile zooming doesn't work.
Previously, I'd just do a quick check to see if I recognized anything, then meh whatever the rest, but even with that, I'd miss cards I know. With you listing their names, I'm more likely to spot the few I know
Seeing those DNA cards makes me want him to do some more… unethical experiments… such as taking a criminal and using the dna card on them to see if he can ‘perfect’ them and if it works to it to himself to make himself have godlike physique, not like the bandit would be a threat to him anyways he can just have Joan on standby to cut the chained man’s head off
A random question that I don't renege if it has been answered. If he installed horn of light onto himself would it literally give him 800 Def and make him have 1k+ defense?
Good question. The answer is no, as installs by default turn into a LV.1 skill, or a skill with no level. But in either case, it wouldn't give Brian that much defense, instead likely turning into a skill like Defense Boost, which would increase his defense a bit, but not nearly that much.
On the other hand, if Brian just normally activated the card and equipped it to himself, he would get 800 more defense. But that of course comes with the standard 2 hour duration limit.
Probably silly to say this here but since you asked if you make the picture of the cards larger where we could read the text if we wanted and put the text outside of the spoiler for text to speech it would help me
In the future chapters (I don't remember when I changed it) the card names will be included. As for making the pictures larger... Well, I could try with new stuff, but I won't be changing any of the older ones.
The Insect Knight would probably be a solid card if he installed a Gaia Power onto it (to increase it's natural element), and a Laser Cannon Armor.
Doesn't he have a lot of Dancing Fairies? Could he install one onto another to get more Fairies to be summoned by it so he doesn't need to use as many card slots next time he needs to use it?
And speaking of Dancing Fairies, I feel like installing Chorus of Sanctuary onto them would be a really good synergy. If he ever needs to heal someone in battle, they can buff the defense of not only the wounded (making the more critically injured less likely to succumb to wounds before healing), but also the ones still fighting. Maybe add the Fairy's Hand Mirror installation onto them too, as a little insurance and a nasty surprise in case anyone tries to forgo the combatants and attack the wounded and healers.
And one more two part question for now - how does the Mountain card work in this world? Gaia Power's the card that buffs Earth attribute, would it work like it says on card, and buff certain species? And if so, could he install Mountain onto a Rock species monster like one of the Hex-Sealed Fusions (preferably The Earth) or the Sand Stone he just got to increase their size a crap ton, and give them the ability to buff dragons and stuff while they're summoned?
Any monster can be made super good with enough equips. The Dancing Fairy one is actually a great idea for when I need Brian to experiment with installing monsters into monsters.
Now for mountain, there are different ways of implementing the effect, but when just activated, it would have an effect to boost the power of Dragon, Winged Beast, and Thunder monsters, just like it has. This also goes for installing it into a monster.
Now installing Mountain into the ground is where it can actually do something funny, by literally making a new mountain there over some period of time.
For increasing size, Megamorph (OCG name is Giganticize) is a better idea.
@nro_8 my thought process was that rock monsters, or at least some like Rock Ogre Grotto #1 and Sand Stone (or at least it looks like it) ARE ground... but I guess stacking a Megamorph onto another hypothetical size increase from a Mountain onto an already generally large monster made of Rock and Stone () would be pretty OP, so that makes sense to me.
@Dr.Smut On paper the mountain shenanigan could work, but it would need the correct host monster. Mountains aren't just piles of loose dirt and rocks, but massive geological things formed from bedrock. And bedrock isn't exactly something that likes to move. At least not that easily. So a host monster that is sufficiently powerful would at least be required.
My idea for something that I could explain mountain working for is Gaia Plate the Earth Giant. It is a monster made of tectonic plate material (based on its name), so it should be able to move around bedrock and use bedrock as a part of its body. But then again, using just bedrock would likely make it weaker (compared to using tectonic plates), even if it does grow in size.
I dont know why but Alice just rubs me the wrong way
I can see major betrayal in the future
In fact I can see mana becoming corrupt and taking Alice's side and shes going to end up fusing together with her and then they turn into the final boss
What im trying to say is, maybe kill off Alice now to avoid the future demon king variant and the loss of mana
He only needs the left arm right?
Yes. Only missing Left Arm of the Forbidden One.
