So, after looking over the novel. I will say this now, I love writing this novel so far... It is just that I fucked up in many parts of it.
MC too op: Yes, he is too op, and he has too strong cheats. I know it is funny... But it ruins the future plot. It makes challenges seem too easy. I didn't want to create One Tentacle Slap Consentacle.
Being Kary's disciple: Again, this makes a lot of the plot hard to develop... And makes the smut more meaningless. Three fucking months.
Letting everything start in an Academy: Why did I even do that? I should have let Cornelia be some desperate witch's apprentice in bumblefuck nowhere... Preferably being on the ugly side. Plenty of chances to fight monsters and grow together.
Being the chosen of a god: Again, pointless.
The system itself is overly complicated for both me and you. Stats and skills are especially giving me a headache, and fuck perks. Classes, levels, and evolutions are possible, but I will be nerfing Tenta... Hard. He will start as your average consentacle, but I will give him that two-class thing. No more meditation power-leveling.
The gods are too nosy... And so are transcendents.
Numbers: Yeah, I bet you all hate them... So do I.
Power Scaling: The power scaling in this novel is off the charts... which makes things stupidly difficult to quantify. What the fuck are we looking for? DBZ?
Things I do like:
Consentacle: Obviously...
Monster Girls: Obviously...
Spooge Economy: My Magnum Opus... (I will simplify it next time since I have a reference sheet.)
The mishmash culture: Admit it, it's funny.
The gods themselves: But they will be less meddlesome.
Dungeons: ... Just they are now fatal flytraps that can cause a dungeon break. (Fucking original, I know)
Levels can increase via eating/living a long time/ killing.
Class levels can increase via doing related stuff + killing.
Overleveling and peak classes give more skills. The evolution itself won't be much different.
Changes:
Since people are weaker... guns are more viable options. From magical musketeers to magical miniguns.
Since skill training is invalid... Class training replaces it. (IE, Swordsman sparing with a sword. Semen Bull dumping his load...)
Everyone can do an analysis... But it only shows approximate race, level, class, and class level.
Tenta's initial form will change into something more combative.
Fewer system messages...
Fuck numbers...
Skill Levels are now because of accumulative class leveling. Skills would include what Peak Master Semen Bull would give. (IE, shrinking balls.)
Skills are now part of 'gifts' from classes. You can't earn system skills by yourself. It is just from purely leveling up (Both classes and races).
The Abyss Realm is now the Monster Girl realm. Like before, it is wholly dominated by monster-girl shenanigans.
Cornelia is now some desperate witch apprentice. Whether she is in the boonies or a dungeon town depends... Or I can make it so the one summoning him is a human witch in the monster girl world. (Which can drive the PLOT.)
I am also considering making tentacle monsters more common... Which makes Tenta that much more hated when misunderstood.
Anyway, I know this is pretty much of a dick move to do this just before the smut scene... But I found it tasteless. Perhaps some of you already noticed it, but it is, in fact, tasteless.
I can continue this novel... But it would feel somewhat empty. It could be so much more... But it is wasted.
I made my choice and will ignore dissuasion. I would only listen to advice on the new work...
I am also adding a poll for the new starting conditions. (And yes, Cornelia would be below-average regardless.)
-
Tenta is summoned in the boonies (IE, village, forest, etc...) - Includes survival. Votes: 87 27.8%
-
Tenta is summoned in a a dungeon town. Cornelia is poor and needs to dungeon dive to survive. Votes: 133 42.5%
-
Same as the second option... But inside a monster girl city. Votes: 84 26.8%
-
Other... (You can suggest.) Votes: 9 2.9%
It's sad, you had a ton of fun things going and honestly an OP MC wouldn't be too much of a dealbreaker for me. He could've just taken more of a mentor role or something so you would've had his disciples do the fighting.
Whatever you were feeling I was quite enjoying the novel as it was and I hope you'll enjoy working on the rewrite more. It would be a shame if it ends up as some generic dungeon crawler.
I would hate it if this dies during the rewrite but I wish you the best of luck regardless.
Man I'm so tired of this kind of development. I find a story and I enjoy it for what it is. have a good time reading and then author says "oh I'm going to rewrite because I don't like the way things are progressing and I didn't plan properly."
now the story I was enjoying is dead. instead some alternate version I'm not even interested in will take it's place. reason for that is because parts of what I was enjoying is going to be kicked to the curb and my thoughts are going to be consumed by what I liked no longer being present. it's unlikely I could even enjoy this other version of it because I read this version here.
and the real kicker is I was putting this one off for a while for some decent amount of chapters to build up and only started having to wait for chapters like 6 to 10 chapters ago.
now despite all that, while I do wish this wasn't being done, you're obviously well within your right to do whatever the hell you want. this is just me bit*hing because I want to convey my frustration, as well as general personal thoughts in regards to the subject. after seeing this scenario play out yet again for something I invested my time in, and subsequently feeling like all that time was wasted, I just had to get my thoughts out there.
I know... It makes me frustrated too. But the points I gave were solid. If I continue this story, it would be like (Who's d*ck is bigger) competition. Know what I'm saying?
@bignt
I mean if that's how you feel about it, I can't really say for certain. I never have a problem with an OP main character if it's written competently and still enjoyable to read, just this one thus far for me was.
The reason I don't have a problem with an OP main character is when they aren't OP they get shat all over by all the bullsh*t that happens to and around them constantly. and with the way things were going and the world building set up, it certainly made sense for him to have to be OP by necessity because of his unique situation. That's just more of a personal preference for me to be fair. I just find it hard to enjoy a story where the main character constantly gets slapped around by everything around them.
I was interested to see what happened when they actually went adventuring after they finally attained enough power to have the capability to be able to see and do things of interest in this crazy world instead of just having to settle for the bare basics that everyone else has to and that is not of much interest.
I can't even really properly conceptualize where things would have gone because we're basically still in the prologue. so I don't even know if the story would have been a failing endeavor or not just yet.
I mean I would get it if you wanted it to be a type of story where they're in all kinds constant battles and the MC has to overcome those kinds of challenges.
but this didn't read like that to me. this read like a smutfic with lots of character interactions and progression of paths of power that most people don't get to do in the setting with occasional battles of actual importance where the main character can actually be relevant since he's strong enough to be able to do anything in such battles. and with the other conflicts just being good old fun for the viewer getting to see the MC actually use this attained power. I was excited to see where the crazy evolutions would head and what would be possible, how the waifu's would turn out etc.
but I can't change your mind for you. so if you want to write an entirely different kind of story then where this one seemed to be going that's up to you. can't blame you, but that doesn't mean I got to like it
@bignt Gave to agree with John764 on some points have had a number of stories I have been reading on this site rewritten and it has been really hard to start over reading them. Most of the stories that were rewritten I lost interest in or stopped reading completely.
Sorry just burned out of relaunches and reimagining's of stories at this point. How many reboots do we need of Star Trek, Superman and other comic book characters, Battlestar Galactica and how many other shows and movies?
@Talmus Honestly? The new novel would be very different from this one.
I am just taking parts of the lore here and putting it in the new novel. The rest is mostly different.
Rewrites, cancellations, long hiatus, someone writing a story that resembles 70-90% of another story you read, etc.
All of these things happen when reading free stories on sites like scribblehub, royal road (I've never tried it), Wattpad, Archive of our own, webnovel (worst one I've tried, it locks out chapters behind ads because it wants you to pay for a subscription service), and others. The reality is that these are all hobby writers (like how most pro writers originally started out as) and we can't really demand anything of them.
I'm sorry that you didn't get the story you wanted and I hope you do find one that satisfies you but such is life for us free readers.
