Synopsis

Mark Owens is an up and comer at Muckraker, a conservative multimedia network. He's got a successful podcast, millions of followers, but his next documentary is gonna be this crown jewel: he's gonna use the latest developments in HRT to become a woman and join a women's softball team, because that is something a 100% cis guy would be willing to do to expose how the trans mob is ruining the sacred American institution that is women's sports. In the process he will learn all about himself, and maybe find the types of connections that he's been looking for his whole life...

TL;DR: Highly worth the read; amazing debut story; 10/10

I've been reading this story since the start. And my first impression was not a good one. When I stumbled across it, I was ready to pass it off as a clumsy attempt by someone to write a insincere ladyballers parody. Which is saying something, considering Ladyballers is a insincere parody of trans people from the perspective of the American alt-right.

I decided to give it a read anyway; despite the story failing my cursory vibe check. Mainly for the sh*ts and giggles, and hopefully it wouldn't be as bad as the initial blurb suggested. Then again, I had a similar beginning with Alyson Greave's The Sisters of Dorley, and now I have mildly popular fanfiction of it up and published. I went into that one assuming it'd be more forcefemme slop off Fictionmania, and came away as a patreon of the author.
One of the best lessons as a critic and an author you can learn, I find, is to not judge a book by its cover. The moment I stopped soaking in the last page of text of this story, I was already posting a link to this story to every discord server I thought might have a cursory interest in it. I have no clue if this caused the story to blow up the way it did, but even if that, the story is quality writing. It would have gotten there with or without my (very nebulous and unrequested) help.

As a debut story, it's fantastic. As a story in general, it's fantastic. And as a trans narrative, it is insanely funny and witty. It fully deserves its success, now, and in the future. I eagerly await more writing from Sowerbot, even if this narrative seems to have (mostly?) come to an end.
10/10, standout story on this site, highly recommended.
