Characters
Yun

The main character. Son of Shun and Biyu, brother of Shen and Coral.

While some may refer to Yun as an ogre due to his overwhelming physical stature, he takes it good naturedly, and prefers not to use violence. However, if someone crosses his bottom line, his anger boils, and his eyes can even glow red as though he were a campfire story monster.

When his head was hit by a mace, the original Yun died on the battlefield.

When Lukas died on Earth, his spirit seethed with rage, and tried to protect his sister before he died. When Yun died, he also was filled with rage on what may happen to his own sister. That ripped Lukas from his world, threw him beyond several others, and drilled through time like an uncontrollable whirlpool on undisturbed waters.

Some day, Yun may find out why he was drawn to this world, but for now, his family needs the Red Eyed Ogre.

Lukas

The original name of the main character when he lived on Earth.  He now goes by the name Yun.

Shun

Father of Yun.

Married to an assassin by the name of Biyu.

Uses the skill 'Bloody Edge', which will sharpen his blade to the point that it can slice steel as easily as it does paper.

Biyu

An assassin living a quiet life in the countryside.

Yun's mother, and Shun's wife.

Uses the skill 'Ghost Steps' to easily defeat most any enemy, but only uses it when absolutely necessary.

Shen

Yun's younger brother.

Barely in his teens, his loyalty to his family can be seen in his actions.

Coral

Yun's younger sister.

A preteen girl who has been spoiled by her family, and though she sometimes shows this spoiled side, she is also quite reliable. When pushed to do as she should, she'll be obedient, and not cause too much trouble for the family that dotes on her.

Senno

Shun's best friend, and a guard who helps to secure the borders of their country, Aplia.

Elder Qiyuan

A clan elder, and the High Elder within the temple.

Elder Li

Clan Elder of the Li family, and devoted worshipper within the temple structure.

A thin, and wiry man, prone to anger, very aware of his standing, and his reputation.  If anyone affects his reputation negatively, he will not forgive it easily.  Unlike other arrogant people, Elder Li's devotion to the gods and the temple negates any kind of action he may wish to take to spare himself humiliation, and keeps his feet on the right path.

Without the temple's influence, and with his temperament,  he could pose problems for others.  However, his religious zeal puts his reputation behind his consideration for the gods, and the temple.

Jian

A member of the Li Clan, and a respected inner member of their courtyard.  He was selected by the temple to be taught by Yun.  Jian, along with the rest of the class, was so disrespectful to Yun that he was told to return to the temple.

Right until the moment he was question by Elder Qiyuan, he did not take his disrespect seriously.

Elder Li had Jian crippled, and whipped as an example to others.

Lan

A humble and modest temple disciple with the skill Whirlwind Slash.

Location
Kald Village

The village where Yun was raised.

Named for the first mayor, and currently the family name of the current mayor. This village has passed from father to son for generations, and though his title is a simple official of the lowest stature, the mayor actually owns all the land in the villages they rule over, and the inhabitants must pay their land taxes to them.

The main source of income for Kald village is through farming. Their neighbor, Larkinge village, clears the land they need to farm, provides them with building materials and most wood products, while Kald village provides them with most of their grains and vegetables.

Through a mutually beneficial agreement that dates back centuries, any farmland that is cleared near Larkinge will have the farmers from Kald village farm the land.  In this manner, Kald has become known as the breadbasket of the area, while Larkinge specializes in the forestry trade.

Bloody Maple Forest

A vast forest on the edge of Kald village, said to have once been the battleground for a vast war that soaked the soil with so much blood, that the trees themselves grew malevolent and evil.

While those tales often kept the bandits and superstitious people out of the forest, it didn't stop a small invading force from crossing it in secret.

The name was spread by the original inhabitants of Kald village when they first took that untamed land. It was the only way they could think of to keep the bandits out of their village in the long term.

The red maples, which did look like they were dyed with blood in a certain light, and the crafty schemes of the first mayor, forced many bandit groups to move away from that forest. This saved Kald village from many raids, and allowed it to survive long enough to become an established farming community.

Larkinge Village

A village close to Kald village, and on the other side of the temple.

Larkinge village's primary source of income is from the forestry industry, and almost all products produced from the dense forests around it and its close neighbor, Kald village.

Town of Coalfell
The closest town to Kald village, and the only location with a road maintained by the government.  It was developed as a small mine originally.

When coal was first found, the mine was set up, and a settlement grew up nearby.  When iron was discovered near the coal deposit, the small mining settlement grew, and turned into a town within a generation.

Empire of Aplia

The country that Yun was born in. It is a simple hierarchy ruled by an Emperor, and a series of titled nobility that range from a Duke, down to a lowly mayor.

Taxes are collected from the nobility by the country, who in turn collect it from the citizens.

Aplia is a coastal country, cut off from its neighboring empires by vast untamed forests, huge mountain ranges, and the deadly Baysberg Forest.

Baysberg Forest
The town of Baysberg, named for the first family to move there, once existed within the vast forest that separated the fledgling empire of Aplia, and its more powerful neighbor, Redok Lok.  Brutal barbarians from Redok Lok often raided the town that grew up around the lumber mills, until something changed within the forest.

The barbarians stopped their raids, and low snarls could be heard in the direction of the border.  Small parties of soldiers were sent into the forest to investigate, but never returned.  A few scouts were sent out, just in case the soldiers found a treasure they kept to themselves.  The scouts never returned.

Then all communication from Baysberg was cut off.  Only one soldier returned when a battalion was sent to investigate.  Before he died from his wounds, his eyes reflect a deep terror of that forest that shook anyone who peered into his eyes.

In the present day, the Capital boasts a large adventurer's guild that often sends teams into the forest for experience in fighting one of the deadliest enemies they've ever faced.

Corrupted beasts that were once normal bears, wildcats, and wolves, are now monsters whose bodies are worth their weight in silver.

Abilities
Skill

A type of martial art that consists of one or several different movements that push the human body to perform higher than it would normally be capable of. As a body requires food to operate and exercise, a skill also requires fuel.  If performed without knowledge, the skill can even demand the user's lifeforce as compensation.

If the skill is formed without consideration of the compensation, or the fuel necessary to operate it, most often, the skill will require the user's life force.

Life Absorption

A rare skill that was learned accidentally while trying to find an alternative to using one's own life force as a compensation for the use of skills.

The major problem with this ability is not yet known.

Skills
Ghost Steps

Ghost Steps gives the user a large burst of speed.  Normally used as a quick dash and slash that makes the user appear to be moving so quickly, the opponents can only see a blur.

Ghost Steps v2

The original skill of Yun's mother, Biyu.  In the original version, it would push the user to a greater speed.

Biyu was able to learn the new version that pulls her body at a greater speed, but the compensation is not her lifeforce.  It is food as the fuel.

Bloody Edge

A skill that allows the user to 'sharpen' the edge of his blade until it can slice through almost anything, including the strongest steel.

Sharpened Blade

The original version of this skill, the Bloody Edge, takes the user's lifeforce as compensation.

The Sharpened Edge uses a projection of spirit to cut through steel, at the speed of the user's blade.

The compensation is food as the fuel.

Wind Blade, short and long

Shun's original skill was the Bloody Edge that could slice through steel.

The altered version uses a projection of wind as the blade. There are two versions of this skill as Shun created the original skill without considering the range.  The long version will move for a few dozen yards ahead of the user, while the short version will only travel five yards.

The compensation is now food.

Unseen Edge

A skill that is a combination of Ghost Steps and Bloody Edge.

The user will move so fast that they will appear to turn invisible, with a blade that can slice through solid plate steel as easily as a dagger through paper.

The cost of this skill should be high, however, the creator of this skill found a different type of compensation other then his life force.

Battle Rage

A previously unknown skill that could temporarily increase the user's physical strength, and make his eyes appear to be red hot coals.

This skill would instill fear within an enemy, or series of enemies, but currently, the cost of using this skill is quite high.

Unless an alternative way to 'fuel' skills is learned, it could quickly drain enough life force from the user to make them age visibly.

Ogre's Strength

A new skill developed by Yun to show his parents that all things are possible.

The skill doesn't increase the user's strength as the user's body would not be able to handle the extra power.  Instead, it envelops the user in a barrier that acts like an exoskeleton.  This exoskeleton exerts the force, and can move boulders many times heavier then the user can lift.

Whirlwind Slash

Lan, a humble temple disciple and sword master, formed this skill while surrounded in battle.

Like all most other skills learned up until this point, it was formed in battle, during a life or death moment, and used his lifeforce as compensation.

This skill is extremely useful while engaging multiple enemies.

The user rotates extremely fast, his blade also slices through steel armor, flesh, and bone as though it were paper.

Measurement
Jin
1 Jin = 500 grams or 1/2 a kilogram

Demigods and gods
Ban ShenYeu

The god of Life, Death, and Rebirth.

Has an undisclosed relationship with the main character, Yun.

Few know even the name of this god, and those that do are very high in rank within the temples.  Those that know the name are expected to have actually met this god personally.
