After losing her parents in the war, Lina has survived two years on the streets by her wits and picking pockets. She targets a black-robed wizard and lifts a bone-white rectangle from him—and something ancient and dead feels her do it.

The wizard tracks her down, and drags her north to the Academy. No one has ever connected with the artifact before.

Talent like hers can’t be allowed to go to waste.

Now Lina has to survive snide teachers, entitled students, and one necromancy curriculum she is months behind on. The problem is that the deathless thing she woke up isn’t done with her either. And it has been waiting a very long time.

Too bad.
