The cosmos twitched in its sleep, and suddenly two people find themselves without jobs, a permanent residence, or anything to lose.
One of them has an idea though. The castle, with its generous benefits package, its guarantee of room and board, and its isolating architecture, would hire them back. He has a plan, you see, that’s all. It’s not like he wants to actually be a woman all the time. But what if he looked like one with magic? And lived as one 24/7? For the plan?
The other one is on board, on the condition that she gets to appear as a man. Not because that’s how she wants to live or who she wants to be, though. It’s about fairness, right? If he gets to change, why can’t she?
All the while, strange events keep occurring under their noses. The cosmos, if all this is its doing, is having a very rough week of sleep. They’ll figure it out eventually.

I'm quite bad at selling people on things, and I don't want to give spoilers cause it's definitely fun to go in blind and see what you can figure out! Let's see what I can say about this story... This is one of my favorite things I've read recently. It's silly, it's fun, it's fantasy, it's got some of my favorite fiction tropes, it's queer af, and I simply could not put it down for the last few days til I caught up. It's also in its final arc as of this review, so it's a pretty good time to get started!

Cool book, very funny I did laugh, very accurate to the trans experience, if only it was that easy though. Deer god wasn't really explained but that's fine, really liked the book, wish we got to see more of Bailey from the eyes of outsiders in the way she presents herself to them.

Also I'm 100% sure there are no cis people, everybody guy wants to be a girl, and every girl wants to be a guy, or they want to be a dragon, yknow normal cis thoughts.

A truly excellent story from beginning to end. You are first sucked in by the writing, crisp, funny, introducing the main characters effortlessly as they struggle to deal with the craziness. Much of the story revolves around trans eggs, there are apparently very few straight cis characters in the entire world. In some stories, that would provoke eyerolls but here it feels just another part of the madness.
Not that it's all fun and games. There are several storylines that deal with trauma, most of the characters are survivors of bad things. Bigots abound and the finale is wrapped up in the question of whether people can ever build a truly tolerant and free society. The ending leaves a lot of that question open, possibly room for a sequel? That would of course be welcome, but this story stands alone.
