Expressions or Exclamations
- Ya! - "Hey!"; basically grabbing someone's attention whether casually or angrily. Considered rude when addressing someone you're not close with or who is older.
- Aish - An incomplete version of 'aishibal' which is a swear. Shortened to censor oneself. Often an exclamation expressing negative feelings like anger, anxiety, and impatience.
- Aigoo - "Oh dear!" "Oh my!" "Jeez!"
- Omo! - "Oh my!"; Often used with excitement or when startled
Family
Some if not all the terms listed below can also be used to address people who are not related whether as a term of endearment (oppa) or respect, or just a sign of closeness.
- Eomma - Mom
- Appa - Dad
- Eonni - Older sister; used by females
- Oppa - Older brother; used by females; also used to address one's boyfriend
- Noona - Older sister; used by males
- Hyung - Older brother; used my males
- Dongsaeng - Younger sibling
- Ajumma - Auntie
- Halmeoni - Grandmother
School/Work
- Seonsaengnim - Teacher
- (name)-shi - a suffix added for respect to peers and colleagues at the same grade or rank.
- (name)-seonbae - a suffix added for respect to students in older grades or colleagues of a higher rank/position.
- (name)-ah - a suffix often used for those who are younger or the same age who is also a close friend.
Food
- Kimchi - A traditional Korean side dish which consists of fermented veggies.
- Samgyeopsal - Grilled pork belly
- Ssam - 'wrap'; referring to dishes where any chosen meat (though not always meat) is wrapped in leafy greens like lettuce, perilla, cabbage, or seaweed.
