September 10, 1919, nearly a full year after the armistice, the last military parade New York ever expects to see makes its way down Fifth Avenue. A soldier, a wanderer, and a thief abandon the spectacle to help a lone twin find his missing sister.
A trail already three months cold leads them down an alley they swear did not exist before sundown, into a forest with no right to exist at all. A forest with no sun, no moon, not a single star, though the birds will lend their light in exchange for a song.
And as it turns out, finding the missing girl is only the beginning.
