Synopsis

Betrayed and murdered for daring to expose the deeds of the corrupt.

Snatched from the void of death by the capricious hand of cosmic coincidence.

Brunhilde Krahe finds herself reborn into a bizarre world of magic and conspiracy, eldritch knowledge in her brain and cosmic fire burning inside.

She copes with her own death the only way she knows how: By continuing her work in the new world. Ruthless mafiosos, corrupt politicians, even lowly gangsters; there is more than enough work to be found for an investigator with no qualms towards hyperviolence.

Do not make peace with evil. NUKE IT.

Quite an interesting mix between biopunk, cyberpunk and cosmic horror, although the latter is not so present after the beginning, except by the diving ! It was specifically well written !

The characters are interesting and so is the lore. The system confused me a bit tho with the difference between Anathema and isotope, and if a characteristic is better with bigger or lower numbers (is D1 better than D2 ? How much is D1 + E2 or something ? Is it linear ? Etc), but that might be because I usually read like a starved beast with a piece of meat.

Anyway, I hope for more interaction with the elder gods ! Thanks for writing this, and sorry for the big review and any grammar mistakes.

Oh, you also forgot to put your discord link in the synopsis.

Status: 197 – they just vanished

This story might at first glance sound like another isekai-wannabe, but there's so much more here than any J-WN I've heard of before. Let me go over a few things in order to help you all understand why you really should give this one a read.

Setting:  The setting of this novel is fairly unique in that it combines Cyberpunk and Biopunk elements almost seamlessly. I've never seen its like before, though I'm sure someone will come along to try and copy Akaso's feat soon enough. Typical fantasy elements, lit-RPG elements, and cyberpunk elements all intertwine here to create something that is neither any or all of them, but something I would call new (or close enough at any rate.)

Plot:  Without going into spoilers, I'll say that the plot progresses in a fluid manner that never seems to drag on or rush much if at all.  ~"The plot is never late, nor is it too early, it moves precisely as fast as it means to."~  Butchered though that famous quote may have been, it's close enough and fits this context. The plot's progression is logical for the most part, one thing leading to the next in a way that makes sense, but I didn't find it predictable in the least. Each chapter was also full of interesting action or lore that it had me clicking "Next" before I knew it.

Characters:  Finally, the core of any good novel is the characters, and Cherno Caster doesn't disappoint. The main cast isn't a who's who of deadhorse tropes like so many other novels I've read here and elsewhere. Each character has a personality that feels fresh and interesting, but also logical for what we know, or come to learn, about them and their backstory. I'm currently caught up at chapter 197, and in those chapters some characters have had some kind of personal growth. Character growth is often an element of writing that many authors struggle with, but here it is handled in a decent way even with it not taking center stage in the story.

So give Cherno Caster a try. You'll more than likely be caught up in no time, just like I was.

Just a few chapters in, but Akaso's got me again. Solid prose, worldbuilding hints that tease greater things to come, and pacing that keeps me coming back for more. Can't wait to see where it goes, catch me staying up way too getting up to date.
