Eli Grayson knew there was no such thing as magic. He knew there were no other worlds filled with magical races beyond his imagining. He knew he was a regular guy, just trying to recover from a brutally difficult breakup.
That is, until he foiled an assassination attempt on an elven princess who showed him exactly how wrong he was. He's thrust headfirst into a hidden world of potent magic and sinister plots only to discover he has powers of his own. Together with his team of magical ladies he unravels the mystery behind who ordered the assassination attempt in the first place, only to discover just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

11 chapters in and... I would pay for the rest of the book if it was already done. Without a doubt, fleshed out characters, wonderful dialogue, excellent pace, wonderful interactions, and I love the magic system so far. It's been briefly explained and it sounds well thought out. Guys, just give it a shot, this is SS-tier writing so far, which will probably change and I'll keep you updated here, but good God, this man can write.
24chaps in, and boy is this now easily Z-tier writing. As we get more screen time we get more information about each character. And the more we learn about each character, the more you tend to fall in love with them. I sh*t you not some of these interactions have given me the physical reactions like heart rate rising, sweaty palms, tingles in ma mingles, just everything is top f**king quality. I have a high critique rate for good books I'll be honest, and this author is f**kin smashing them to bits. Grammar is high end publish book quality, the depiction of scenes leave your mind overwhelmed with imagery in the best way possible, interactions leaving you wanting more, almost a carnal desire. This is probably the best written book I've read on this cite, without a doubt, and is now one of my favorites and we are just barely scratching the surface of this magnificent beast.

I rarely leave reviews, even less often for stories that I lose interest in, and I am writing this one here because there are six positive reviews that hardly reveal the pros and cons of the book. Now to the story itself. First, it is a fairy tale about the main character who saves the heroine in distress, and in the process of saving her, it turns out that the main character is special, but this feature entails several complications for socialization in the magical community. To help him, the rescued princess offers marriage to resolve his predicament (a standard beginning for all fairy tales aimed at teenagers and inexperienced readers). And everything would be fine if the story then began to transform into something original, but no, this is a typical Mary Sue story, where the main character already possesses all the positive qualities and necessary skills for the comfortable advancement of the plot (except for magic, but even that, apparently, will not last long). And at about this point, it becomes clear how the fights will unfold, which are not bad in principle, but at the same time, they are not engaging (perhaps the whole problem lies in the lack of a well-developed backstory for the character regarding his successes and qualifications in martial arts). The world is well-developed, let's say it is, but in general terms, which was enough for the beginning of the story, but as the plot moved forward, it began to lag behind and could not keep up with events (at the time of the first half of book 1). In terms of the harem component, there were also some twists and turns. What I mean is that the world itself has this type of relationship (the gender ratio is skewed towards women), and the magical community itself is quite open about s*xuality and less uptight than humanity. Add to that the fact that the main character is handsome and has a noble temperament, and girls are attracted to him even though they barely know him (it's not a given that everyone who is attracted to him will end up in the harem, but it does speak to the accessibility of women). But there are also good moments, the romantic component with the main heroine looks good, the bed scenes are written to a solid B, as are the dialogues with secondary characters, and overall the story reads smoothly and comfortably. I want to note that at the time of writing this review, I had read a little more than half of the first book, and perhaps it will get better as the author works out the flaws in the story and strengthens the positive aspects, but at the moment, the story is turning out this way. Overall, my impressions of the story are mixed. It's definitely not trash, but there's nothing particularly compelling about it. If you're not a seasoned reader, you might want to give it a chance, but at the very least, you'll know what to expect from the story.

A very well written and precise world is in the pages of this book. While I am not a huge fan of modern fantasy, as it is hard to balance modern weapons and magic, FGSmith makes it work. The magic has rules and systems to it that makes it so it isn't too broken, and guns are not under-powered.
So if you are into fantasy and into heram themed stories give it this one a shot.

The writing is genuinely published book worthy. I only wish there were more chapters and more chapters per week. 5/5 probably one of the best works on this site. It’s so good I’d literally pay to read more
