Zane is at a breaking point. Kicked out of school, thrown out of his house by his dysfunctional parents, abandoned by everyone. He thinks of only one solution. Finally ending it all.
As he's on his way to jump off a building, he stops at a mysterious game shop. There, the shop clerk offers him to play an obscure RPG game called “Reborn Regression”. Zane accepts, with nothing to lose anyway.
But as he begins playing, strange things start happening. Everything around him disappears. And then after a few moments everything reappears. Except this time, he's in the game, the same game that he started playing. As the only player among the many NPCs, he's at first overwhelmed but he soon adapts.
Zane applies himself for the Public Security Competition, a difficult and grueling test of skills and durability in which only the select few will pass and gain the prestigious title of a “Ranger”, powerful individuals who are highly skilled in the mysterious art of “Ike”, a type of life force that appeared a thousand years ago and can be manipulated into many types of techniques, both for offense, defense and support.
Rangers are specialized agents of the non-governmental organization known as the Social Security Committee or S.S.C. and amongst their many assignments is the upholding of order and peace across the world.
On this journey, Zane will go through many quests and trials and meet various types of humans and other creatures, on different scales of morality and his own sense of good-and-bad, black-or-white viewpoints will be put to the test. But above all, Zane’s ultimate goal is his own survival, the will to persevere and uncover the mysteries of the mystical world he now inhabits.
