Elizabeth was a girl like any other. She went to school, had friends, laughed and loved. She had a happy life. However, it was not meant to be. One gloomy day, her parents died in a tragic accident. She was left alone, except for her younger brother, her last family. But that, too, didn't last forever. Her brother fell ill with terminal illness.
Many doctors tried to find a cure. They failed.
The only ones that could save him were the Alii, an enigmatic alien race that arrived on Earth a few decades ago. She made a deal with them where they would cure her brother, in exchange for her entering their VRMMO. The only problem was that there was no way to return.
Of course, she wasn't going alone. Her childhood best friend, Ben, joined her. However, he had conditions.
"I'll do it if you be my slave."
"Yes."
Both of them were shocked. He had meant it as a joke, or so he would claim, and she answered instinctively, from the heart. There was no thought behind it, and she could no longer deny that she wanted to be with him.
Together, they created their characters and laid down plans for what they would do in their new lives.
Elizabeth decided to become Elwen Merenien, a fey elf sorceress. She had always been enamored with the idea of magic, so she wanted to become a magic user in her new life.
Ben became Varian Shadowstorm, a dark elf warrior. Of course, he didn't want to be just a warrior. It was merely a stepping stone to his greater plans. He wanted to be rich, owning anything and everything he desired. He wanted to be a master, with a harem of girls at his beck and call. He wanted to be a king, ruling over vast domains. He wanted to be a conqueror.
I thoroughly enjoy the captivating worldview and characters within this series. However, I find that a clearer exposition of the world-building would enhance the overall experience. For instance, it would be beneficial to elaborate on what happen to the players' bodies who entered into the game. Do they enter a state of hibernation within capsules, leaving only their brains active, or do they entirely disappear and transform into data? Additionally, delving deeper would provide greater insight for the reader. Whether through direct explanation or integration into the plot.
One aspect that impresses me is how NPCs like natives rather than merely serving as lifeless entities and focusing only on the players. Lastly, I hope for more frequent updates to the series and to continue maintaining this quality.
