If it’s alright to ask, as someone who’s read so much of the genre on SH I’m curious what exactly you look for in a genderbender story
Oh, to be seen.
The primary thing I read for is gender euphoria- the change doesn't matter so much except in that it provides contrast that both makes it easier to see and makes inexperienced authors hit the mark more often, even if only on accident. There's a lot of other stuff I'm into- I'm actually a big fan of forcefem/noncon stories when they intersect usefully with the trans perspective- but gender euphoria is what I'm chasing.
Also a fan of forced fem/non con, but I’ve never written any, most of GB drafts usually just end at ‘unwilling transformation’
Basically done with the backreading portion of my genderquest- my attempt to read every gender bender tagged story on the platform in hopes of mining out some semblance of gender euphoria from it. I didn't read EVERYTHING, but my preliminary takeaway at over 500 read is that I do not trust the gender bender tag if it doesn't come with a transgender tag alongside. There's a couple where it works but usually it's just the prelude to something a little eh.
Do you have any recommendations for especially good gender bender + transgender fics?
@alpineprincess Witch Hunt by joobie, Sovereign of Wrath by MadMaxine, Penumbra and its sequel Penumbra:Redshift by Elamimax, Just Super by PollyChrome, Dog of War by Mindcrank (if you don't mind the noncon inherent to the HDG setting), All The Marbles by MissJuniper, Devil's Claw by originalzin, and Fish Out of Water by Relyet. That's like 2 million words of genderswap/transgender content for you. My lists are also publicly viewable if you're interested in more.
