Chosen one...fight!

The only one who could defeat the calamity is you.

This world's salvation lies in your hands.

...

In my whole life, I had always been mediocre. I didn't stand out much besides simply being a loner. People find me very boring; nobody wants to talk to me.

It all changed during that day when I found a fallen sword in the park. I want to pick it up so much.

...and I grabbed it first before anyone noticed. The sword laid itself in a place people didn't usually go to. My, personal, secret spot. God indeed favored me.

The day I will become someone significant has come. Hopefully, I'll be a legendary hero.

Huh?

There's nothing special about the sword at all. When I look at it again, the one I'm holding was merely a wooden branch falling from the nearby tree, instead of a sword.

I want to cry, I want to bawl my eyes out for being so unlucky.

Why wasn't I chosen? I don't want to live an ordinary life. I longed to be a special one so much.

Please, God. Let me be the Hero--I yearned to be the one who will save the world and only me.

To make the world a better place; I'll try my hardest to defeat the calamity. I believe no one else can dedicate themselves more than myself.

Of course, it wasn't up to me.

The Chosen one he's referring to was my neighbor, Kojiro.

We went to the same school and I first heard of the Chosen One gospel when a drunk salaryman suddenly stopped in front of us during our way home.

How could I be so blind, not to notice where he's actually staring at?

Ever since that day, I never heard of Kojiro again. His family transferred abroad and years later, I had received news that Kojiro invented the cure for cancer.

...and he also died from cancer.
