Athena and I went to the capital, since she could not fly like me, we had to go at foot. We were currently half a day away from reaching the capital.

“Master are you a vampire?”, Athena asked curiously. “No, I’m not. I just look like one.”, I answered.

“What are you then?”, Athena asked again. If she thought that I was a vampire, then that means she should be alright with ghosts, right? “I’m a ghost.”, I said, Athena got shocked for a moment.

“Are you really? But I can see you and touch you even though I am not a spiritualist.”, Athena said. It is true only spiritualists or people who have the ability to see spirits. “I made a spell that allows me to materialize.”, I shortly explained.

“What I’m more curious about is what skills you have, if you’re weak you might die trying to fight even the weakest monsters.”, I said. “I have the Skills ‘Swordsmanship’ and ‘Fire Attribute Magic’ for fighting.”, Athena said.

“Aaaand?”, I asked as if hoping for more. “……That’s it.”, Athena said.

“Tell me they’re at least at a decent level?”

“They’re all at level one…”, she responded in a small voice

‘This girl….it’s fine I don’t have many myself.’m I thought as I opened my status.

I guess I do have a lot of Skills, but I am not sure if this is enough to fight against Ralph, and whoever else might be involved. He might have an evolved Skill like my ‘Distorted Mind’.

Once a Skill reaches level ten, the skill might evolve depending on how much you train.

“Master are you unhappy that I don’t have many Skills?”, Athena asked with puppy eyes, I could barely resist them. “No, it’s no problem. However, it’s important that you get stronger, if you want to kill that noble’s daughter.” I said emotionlessly.

“Yes….”, Athena said as she looked at the ground, as if thinking about what happened. “Also, why do you call me ‘master’, I asked you last night to stop calling me that.”

“I… I call you master because...”, before she could finish her sentence, I said. “You don’t have to force yourself to say your reason.”, I told her. I didn’t want to force her to tell me her reasons if she doesn’t want to, after all we just met.

“…”, Athena stood quiet and I took that silence as her answer.

“Also, what job do you have? If you don’t mind me asking.”, I asked trying not to be rude.

Jobs are important to beings who are not monsters, from Iris’s description it allows humans elves and other non monster races to get stronger at a certain job. For example, if you have ‘Swordsman’ as your job, it will increase your skill levels on ‘Swordsmanship’ and maybe even give you Skills that are a bonus from the ‘Swordsman’ job. You can’t get all jobs, you need to have done something and maybe even have a certain title or skill for you to get it.

“My job is ‘Swordsman’, I was trying to walk on my mother’s footsteps to become a great swordsman.”, Athena said.

Her mother was the ‘Sword Saint’ somebody who evolved their sword Skill to a point where people started to call her that.

“Okay, now…”, I was about to say we should keep going until I heard a grumble. It was coming from Athenas stomach.

We looked at each other, Athena was blushing slightly. “Why don’t we go and eat something.”, I suggested.

 

 

 

We had two choices one, get to the capital and quick, or two, go hunting ourselves. We chose the ladder or rather she did.

I helped Athena to go hunting, we caught a boar which should be enough for me and her to eat.

Now that is one convenient Skill, I wonder how it works? The only thing I did was ask Athena to start a fire, and I dissected the boat and let the blood dry off. Afterwards I cut it into the little meat pieces and put them over the fire hanging.

The scent coming off of it wasn’t bad, was it because of my Skill? I picked up the piece of meat and gave it to Athena.

She smelled it first, and then ate it. Her eyes mesmerized as the taste started spreading throughout her mouth.

“Does it taste good?”, I asked, as she was smiling. “Yesh, it ish.”, Athena said with food in her mouth. “Swallow, before you talk.”

I decided to take a piece as well, the taste wasn’t bad. Athena looked at me with a curious intent. “Why are you eating? Ghosts and spirits don’t need to eat.”, Athena said confused by the fact that I’m eating despite me being a ghost.

“I eat food because it tastes good.”, It was a simple reason, if there is something that tastes good then, why not eat it?

Athena thought for a second and then nodded. “I guess you’re right. Master when are we arriving at the capital?”, Athena was walking for days and she wasn’t familiar with the landscape. “We’ll be arriving after a couple of hours of walking.”, I answered.

We continued eating in the forest, it was peaceful. Everything that happened did not even seem to have existed at all.

“Hey master, this is our first meal together isn’t it?”, Athena said with a small smile. “I guess it is.”, I said

We continued to eat the boar, I finished first since I did not eat much. And Athena ended up eating the whole animal. After that we put out the fire and made our way to the capital.

 

 

 

The capital was the biggest city in Dawnwell, the buildings were well made, and you could see the Kings castle from the distance. The castle was like any Kings castle. The name of the city is Sintel. The history behind the name was unknown.

We were outside the entrance to the capital Sintel.

“Athena, we have to get pass by the gates to be able to enter the city, I need you to hide behind me.”, I said as I walked towards the gates.

We were still dirty from when we met, so we decided to use that as a possible story to enter the capital. I would be making up a fake story to enter the city, since Athena is a noble her face was probably going to be recognizable.

I cleaned off the blood around my mouth and tried to clean up my clothes, now I looked like I was injured.

“Hello mister guard, I would like to enter the city please.”, I asked the guards at the entrance, the two of them looked at me suspiciously. “I think I never seen you before, what is your business in Sintel?”, the one guard asked.

I was waiting for him to ask that. “Our parents were killed by monsters, a-and now we’re here to find our grandfather.”, I explained my fake story.

In this world where monsters exist, tragedies happen all the time, so it was not unnatural that a kid’s family died or not.

“Hmm… Alright, you have to pay the entrance fee if you want to enter Sintel. It’s five bronze pieces.”, the guard demanded with a smirk, the previous town I went to didn’t ask that old man an entrance fee, so that probably means that he thinks he can steal some cash from me or he wants me to go back into the forest and die off by some monsters.

“Of course, your sister can pay it for you two another way, we would give her the time of her life.”, the guard said with lust in his eyes, Athena twitched for a second and then turned back to normal. “No, thank you mister. Here is the money.”, I said immediately handing over five bronze.

The guards became a little annoyed and then started opening the gates. “You can go now.” , the one guard said with a sour expression.

Athena and I passed through the open gates, and entered the capital, there were way more people than in Blue Tear. However, there was one thing bugging me.

“Why are there almost no elves, dwarfs and demi-humans, I heard those races existed but I haven’t seen a single one.”, I asked Athena who was hiding behind me.

“That is because Dawnwell is a Human supremacy country, elves and demi-humans aren’t exactly treated like people here. There are elves, dwarves and demi-humans in Dawnwell but not many living here I particular.”, Athena tried to explain.

Dawnwell is a human supremacist country, any other race is not treated like humans are, even though they have human like aspects.

We were walking through the city, watching the sights. The sun had already set, and we needed somewhere to stay.

“Hey, Athena do you know where you can find an Inn here?”, I asked Athena as she was looking at me. “I’m sorry master, I don’t know any.” Athena said in an apologetic tone.

‘Guess I’ll have to ask somebody.’, I thought as I searched for a spirit nearby. The area I was in didn’t have many with their memories intact, and most of them were non-human beings, so I had to find one who died recently and ask him.

After I found a spirit that had his memories still intact, I found out there are some inns that I could go to. There was the ‘Starling Inn’, it was a rather famous place for having a small hot spring in their establishment.

“…. Um master….”, Athena called out to me as I chose the ‘Starling Inn’ to spend the night in.

“What is it?”, I asked Athena who was walking right behind me.

“Ahm…. I woul—“,

“Hey look, the inn is right over there.”, I said cutting her sentence.

Athena and I entered the inn without a moments rest, Athena did not say anything afterwards and simply stayed silent.

“Hello and welcome to the ‘Starling Inn’.”, the receptionist greeted us the moment we entered the inn. “Hello, I would like to stay here for one night for now. Two rooms please.”, I requested.

“Alright then sir, one night and two rooms, and also breakfast comes included you don’t have to pay for that, and bath is also free to use. That’ll be two silvers.”, the receptionist said with a business-like smile.

At that moment I realized something, I did not have enough money. I had enough for nights but the problem was the fact that I needed it for something that will come in handy later.

‘Welp, guess I’ll have to do this.’, I though as I swallowed my whole pride.

“Hey Athena.” I called out her name as I started to build all of my courage. “Yes, what is it master?”, Athena asked innocently.

“….. You wouldn’t mind sharing a room? Right?”
