Uhm…
*flip*
I was in the Kinai lord’s territory. Right on the border with the kingdom of Dazia. So, I was right at the direct edge of the southern border.
Where am I now?
I don’t know!
I’ll just go forward for now.
Honestly, for a “demon lord’s” territory, this place seemed far too normal. Just your run of the mill green forest. The only thing that stood out in particular was probably the weird insects and squirrel type things.
Wait. Releasing a hiss, the silkworm abomination jumped at the poor things neck.
I turned my back and continued moving, I saw nothing. It’s okay! I’m too big for these things anyway, I'll peacefully exit this forest!
*bite*
Pain echoed throughout my arm. Looking down, I saw an identical copy of that disgusting stick biting my arm right above the wool cuffs.
It stung, but no blood could be seen and a vile purple circle which began to slowly expand. This revolting insect poisoned me.
A small flame, kindled in my palm, quickly spreading until it roasted the bug alive. Picking the charred thing with my fingers I ate it. How does it feel?
*shudder*
Revenge was not worth damaging my tongue like this. It felt like jelly with rubber flavouring. Never again…
On the bright side, I guess it was a monster with a magic crystal inside it since the bruise-like circle began to slowly shrink. Satisfied, I continued walking across the forest. Wait. Why were these bug things everywhere? I feel bad for the squirrel which got caught, these things were everywhere.
Concentrating on the flames in my palm, I tried to dispel it away from my body.
*Whoosh*
Did it work?
I think I could say it worked a little too well. The entire radius of trees and grass around me were wrapped tightly under a roaring orange blanket, violently spreading. I gasped at what I had created. A forest fire to eliminate the poisonous silkworm nests. Thankfully, being immune to the flames meant that my ability to traverse the cindered terrain wasn’t hindered. I could finally continue my relaxed journey through the Lordship!
As the flames continued to spread, I walked without loitering. Lost in thought, I considered whether the smoke would alert some sort of police or militia to come? They wouldn’t see me as a monster, right? Just a harmless sheep demi human who had nothing to do with this ‘little’ fire. My clothes had taken quite a hit from the fire though.
Looking at my arm, the poison circle was almost fully faded away. The venom itself was like an anaesthetic which made the affected area go numb. If it could be dealt with a simple fire though, why didn’t any of the locals deal with it? If they exist.
Most of the fire had died down by now, leaving charred trees, a black carpet and thick smoke and given the non-existent number of poisonous caterpillars, I think I successfully wiped out the nest. It was a shame the taste was too bad to not eat them thou-
A spear was held an inch away from stabbing my neck.
“Who are you?”
I would suggest just writing and stopping according to the scene then upload according to whatever chapter length you ended up with.
Good plan, with that no need useless cliffhanger
I like this too, thank you for the suggestion!
Option 3 Random chapter length and release times?
If a chapter feels like it could be longer just let it be long.
Ah, the Wondering Inn option.
So, from the intelligent races, we have people who are magically gifted and dominated, and on the other side, demons that do not have magic and are in a deplorable state, right?
But why the demons, having no magic, did not follow the path of our world, developing technologies? Or did they have magic before, but something happened and they lost it? Who are the demon lords (besides the fact that they are lords)? Are they the same demons as the rest, or do they have any superpowers or other outstanding characteristics? Do people dominate only in this region or is this a situation for the whole world?
Now I would like to talk about the third intelligent (?) Race, our main character.
How many are there in total? They are all so easily born, just feeding them with a magic stone that chickens do not nibble? Do they have a developed community or organization of their own? What place do they occupy in the world? The ability to absorb and become stronger, is this a feature of the heroine or a common trait? If this is her uniqueness, why does she possess it?
how many hundreds of thousands of years did it take us to figure out technology? Human history goes back a looooooong time, but our technological society is pretty much like, 200 years old. It's a baby. Super short. A tiny drop in the bucket of human history.
Maybe demons eventually would reach for technological advancement. But who knows how long it'd take them to realize that's a valid path forwards? Took real humans frikin forever, man.
@engineer_marshmallow I did not say that they should have technologies of our level, but if they appeared approximately at the same time as people and developed technologies much longer than people (they were busy with magic), then shouldn't people have some kind of technological gap? And besides, even if they cannot use magic directly, what prevents them from becoming an alchemist and making, for example, magic cannons with magic crystals? In the end, even without magic, they live in a magical world, there is where to turn.
My idea of suddenly disappearing magic seems to me more and more plausible.
@Смотреть In addition, speaking "technology" I had a broader concept, for example, as more efficient agriculture, better metalworking and, as a result, better equipment for soldiers, and so on. , I don't know how best to explain this. And if people already have the development of the late Middle Ages, then shouldn't the demons be at the level of, say, the 2nd industrial revolution?
@Frostie As an author, do you have answers to these questions or ideas for them?
@watching Here are my answers to some of these, I hope they're satisfactory
Demons CAN use magic, it's demi-humans who can't and as such, they are easy picking for races which can, creating a significant halt on their chances of developing technology to be on the same 'tier' as human and demon magic. Since they can't use it, they're looked down upon and exploited without giving a chance.
In another place they might be developing some stuff though :)
@Frostie And our heroine is demi-humans, right? And the village she is now in is the village of demons, right? What about demon lords?
Forgive me if you wrote about this and I did not notice, I read with the help of a google translator.
I do not know your situation, but I came across works where the author did not think over the "skeletons" of his work, such as the world situation, world laws (many explain the same magic rather vaguely, although for them magic and its laws are like the laws of physics for us) and etc. and because of this lack of a "backbone" over time, instead of a good story, an incomprehensible pile of "biomass" was obtained, in the best (or worst?) cases, in the main they were thrown. With such clarifying questions, I want to not only satisfy my curiosity, but also thus help you think about it, because it is better to think over (or at least have a sketch of an idea) like this before an awkward situation happens, isn't it?
I don't remember exactly whether you have it, but it seems I wrote something like that, but in a more detailed way, I'll try to search since we started a conversation.
