After lunch, I said I would head over to the guild for a little bit. Alice was against it (as always), but I told her that we can’t train anyway so she might as well rest. And she won’t need me for that.
The guild wasn’t that busy yet. I think I arrived a little before the adventurers returned from outside.
“Brian, can I help you?” Zayaan’s girlfriend asked me. Girlfriend? Or perhaps they are already engaged? I don’t see a ring on her. Actually, wouldn’t it be a bracelet with a magic stone? Well don’t see one of those either.
“I’m looking for Lucia.” I told her. “Do you know where she is?”
“I believe she has already gone home for the day. She told us she had a project she is doing there.”
“I see. Thank you.”
“Are you going to head over to their house?”
“Yes. Lua said she wants to travel with me now that Prime Rib is breaking up. She is making us a travel plan and I want to discuss it with her.”
“I see. It will be a shame to lose her. Zay will have to work hard to find someone as skilled as her.”
“That he will.” I agreed.
“Also, some of the adventurers have told me to ask you to help them train again. Would that be possible?” The receptionist asked.
“Probably not. I have plans today. And I’ll be going to the dungeon for the next few days.” I responded.
“That’s a shame.” She said to me.
I guess I could give Zay a card that summons something like a sword master before I leave and he could use that. If I give it to him in a toploader, he could use it up to 3 or 4 times a day. Probably just 3.
Perhaps I could also give something like Ultimate Obedient Fiend to either Zay or Brandon to act as a defense against the lesser behemoth. It's not like I really need it anymore as I got the Master of Oz. Even if Ultimate Obedient Fiend can’t solo something like a lesser behemoth, it should be able to hold it off for a little while. And the adventurers can use that opportunity to pound it with attacks.
I made it to the Prime Rib team house. Thanks to Laura, I knew the way.
I knocked on the door.
“Oh, Brian. Hi.” Alex said as he opened the door.
“Hi Alex. Is Lua here?” I asked.
“Yes. We are working on the travel plan. Please, come in.” Alex welcomed me inside.
I followed Alex inside the house. I saw Lua sitting at the table.
“Hi Brian. So you came here.” Lua greeted me.
“Yeah. I went to the guild and asked where you were. I was told you had headed home already so I came over.” I told her.
“I see. Well, we really haven’t gotten far. We thought our first stop should be Sawyer city. My mum lives there and she has a better idea about the dhampir safe towns. I only know the large ones.” She told me.
“Well we can always make up a plan on the fly.” I reminded her. “Isn’t freedom one of the biggest advantages of adventuring?”
“We’ll still need money for everything.” She reminded me.
“Well I can pay for most things. I got a decent sum of money when I sold some things from the dungeon.” I told her.
“No amount of money will last forever.” Alex commented.
“Perhaps not, but at least we can get started without having to worry about running out.” I said. “Actually, I still haven’t received the money for the wyvern sales from the guild. And Lex said they would reward me for the rescue operation as well.”
“Well that will be quite the sum.” Alex said.
“Well at least we can get somewhere before we need to look at guild jobs. But how will we travel? Should we hire a carriage?” Lua asked.
“If it was just the two of us, we could use Gradius.” I told Lua. “But we could use Overdrive.”
“What were those again?” Lua confirmed.
“You’ve never seen Gradius, but it’s basically a flying golem. And Overdrive is that mechanical carriage that I used back when we dealt with the wyverns.” I told her.
“Can’t we just travel with that carriage thing then?” Alex asked.
“Well I can only keep it summoned for so long and it’s not super comfortable.” I answered. “We could always use my dragons, but that will cause panic.”
“The dragons are no good.” Lua commented. “We should only use them in an emergency.”
“While I don’t really like it, I have to agree. They just cause too much panic.” I responded. “I also have some other things like The Trojan Horse.”
“NO!” Lua yelled. “I never want to ride that thing again.”
“I have to agree. It was terrible.” Alex added.
… was it really that bad? Well, I could always try to get a second and perhaps even third Overdrive and put them all in toploaders. That way I can just alternate them on cooldown. Then just get some decent pillows or something to make the seats just a bit better. Or perhaps Machine Conversion Factory could improve its suspension. But I think I’ve been sacrificing them for sleeves. Well, I’ll end up opening more LoBY at some point anyway. Unless my luck with getting the commons I need follows me to that set as well.
“Because of that, I’ll be out of town for the next few days.” I told the two of them about my trip to the dungeon with Christina.
“And then we will leave after that, right?” Alex confirmed.
“That’s the plan.”
“We’ll get everything prepared on our end at that time then.” Lua told me.
“That sounds good.”
After a bit more discussion about our preparations, I left their house.
The rest of the day was … basic. I talked a bit with Christina about when we were going to leave and who would come with us. She decided to take two maids with us, so there were going to be four of us going to the dungeon. I told her that I would take care of the transport with Overdrive. I’ll just pull for a second one tomorrow, just in case.
With the plan made, dinner eaten and Alice …. well dealt with, so she wouldn’t be coming with us, I was off to bed.
Really should only pull for pots of greed until at least 50 are made for daily increases. The extra cards could go to sleeving one of each card type from that pack. Chances for more resurrection as well as healing potions.
He 100% should, but that would be boring. It also just increases the amount of work I have to do for every pack opening.
And eventually, Brian will have a toploader playset of every card anyway.
@nro_8
"NO!" Lua yelled. "I never want to ride that thing again."[/spoiler]
Laura: (That horse really did poop everywhere…)
Oh noes. There is horse poop inside of my wooden horse golem. How could that have happened?
Laura: (You moron. You let a horse inside, so of course there is poop everywhere.)
I kinda find it a real shame that Nro_8 only writes small bits at a time since honestly the total amount of chapters he's written when translated to Book pages is less than 5-10 book chapters... Most of these chapters could be merged and lose none of the suspense or cliffhanger feeling.
In total he can condense all 106 pages down to about 27 Web chapters as that would put the content per chapter on equal grounds to most other novels. Such as He who fights with monsters, or the Mark of the fool.
We've spent 100+ posts in a single town spanning less than 1 weeks worth of the characters time. Not counting the 2 week time skip somewhere in there.
Very little gets done on any single day as over 90% of each days time is skipped with "they did x for the rest of the day" which you'd think would give us more actual stuff in world.
Not really saying that more needs to be fitted in each chapter, but more diversity is definitely needed.
For instance. Lua knew brian was going to be busy for at least a week on stuff, why did she not send letters to other dhampirs and have them come to town instead. Might just be something Nro_8 forgot but Lua's actually be aware that brian was going to be busy for a whole week for a few days now so this most recent scene of her still asking is a bit weird. Basically, 2-3 days ago in world brian strait up told her that he needed a few days to get things in order, and each day since he's been keeping her posted that more things taking multiple days have been added. In fact, the day before this scene he strait up told her he'd need 3 days at least for stuff.
I agree, but did want to point out that it is straight not strait...
I knocked on the door
He is knocking for the second time. He already did in the previous sentence.
Better eat away the extra knock.
good chapter. Enjoy your break and I hope thay you like your new home.
I remember in the early chapters (chapter 2) you described dragon treasure as permanently upgrading one dragon card's power. As obsessed as he is with his blue eyes dragon I don't understand why he hasn't used one on it yet.
I also noticed at some point during his draws he drew a card called Interdimensional Matter Transporter. With a name like that and considering he has been transported interdimensionaly this card just screamed at me that he should have been able to do something cool with it. Official card effect text was "Target 1 face-up monster you control; banish that target until the End Phase". My thought for the something cool modified effect was that the banished monster brings back one random small item from the random dimension it was sent to after 24 hours had passed. Could be just a rock/stick/leaf most of the time but maybe he gets a can of cola/magic item/rare plant seeds or something rarer that he could analyze to put into dungeon spawns. Also the random dimension bit means Brian unlikely to gamble on trying to use it to go home for a short visit.
Also, it's taken 2 days of binge reading but I'm now caught up having started reading from chapter one. Nice story here, I'm sad I'll have to find something else to read till that "Next" button lights up again.
If you want my recommendations, check out 'Boosted Restart – A new chance in a different world' and 'Elania, Arachne in a different world'. They are probably my two favorite series on this site.
Nice Chapter, good luck with the moving.
I think Gladius will cause similar stress to the people as a dragon. Atleast with their dragon they can asume the worst, but I am pretty sure that a Flying Golem is only used by powerfull wizards which can also brough similar destruction than a dragon with strong enough spells
Honestly there's no real way to tell since they barely batted an eye at the jeep. So gradius would probably be only a bit more interesting to people as it seems clear that knowledge of Transport Golems is a thing even common folk know about.
@crystalkalem It really just comes down to how common I make airships and the like. A flying golem will likely be more rare than an airship, but most people won't know the difference. They would just think Gradius is a small but fast airship. The same goes for Overdrive. Looking at it, it just looks like a mechanical carriage. Not really a golem one (one with intelligence).
@crystalkalem they believe that Brian is powering his Transport Military Golem with his magic, unless they asked him which they did and he answered, people just get out of their way. Now... imagine a jetplane, that can easily break the sound barrier and can probably travel using FTL tech, appear near a city, imagine, their thinking that the freaking ship is using magic as fuel, how syrong is the people powering the thing, they don't know that it doesn't cost a thing.
Atleast with a dragon which is organic and can be treated as a really powerfull monster, they will know that it is their end so they can be hostile towards it and protect their home somewhat, but with a freaking spaceship, it could be an enemy that will lay waste to their city or a really important person on a business that they can't offend. It doesn't matter if airships are accesible or not, that Flying Military Golem will cause massive panic attacks.
@nro_8 don't underestimat hightech stuff vs primitive people from a magical world were tech doesn't exist in favor of magic. Gradius is capable of FTL so he will litterary be teleporting around in their points of view as they cannot percieve that speed, imagine a massive flying weapon suddently appearing close to your city when you as a guard can't do anything as it is already there, no prep time or information.
