Kaori never signed up to be a ninja, in fact, her business had just started to show signs of success when she was thrown into the world of Naruto. All she wanted was a normal life, a cup of lukewarm tea, and maybe a pet pug... won't say no to a couple of millions. But here she was, somehow inducted into the ANBU's Barrier and Security department – a guaranteed low-key job of being stealthy and keeping tabs on some unimportant lamb. Except the world seemed hellbent on making her life a living hell.
Then came the card system – now, she can collect cards that grant jutsus, tools, rare bloodline abilities, and even... people. Talk about a game-changer! The gears in Kaori's mind started to turn. Maybe, just maybe, she could carve out her own little force, a small ninja army that could ensure that she survives the world-ending wars each Friday, and maybe even get a decent retirement.
Her new mission seemed promising enough – a simple surveillance job.
"It's a simple enough job, all you have to do is keep an eye on someone."
"Who?"
"Oh, no one important... just Kushina Uzumaki."
"...Who?"
I enjoyed the start, it was a very interesting opening that was very good in getting my attention. It felt serious enough.
The System itself was something unique to me and the prospect of what Kaori could achieve with it was also interesting.
Kaori's initial character, the new Kaori (not deceased Kaori), adopted her predecessor's qualities. An unassuming young woman who seems smart enough and is apathetic to an extent. But as of Chapter: 12, she basically gets completely replaced by a new personality due to the
Uzumaki Bloodline
Frankly I found it jarring, and as of Chapter: 21 I couldn't really convince myself to read further as at that point I realised that it wasn't the type of fiction I was looking for. Please note that it's still early in the story, really early in fact, and that perhaps it changes in the future. I kind of doubt it, it's good for what it is meant to be, which honestly fits the anime's theme of Naruto rather than a more serious telling.
Please don't let this make you not read this story though. It's definitely interesting and has a solid outline, and the writing was pretty good too along with an intricate enough system. It's just that it quickly veered into territory that I don't enjoy in Naruto fanfictions.
Message to the Author: This is a classic tale of, "it's not a you problem, it's a me problem." so don't feel disheartened. It really is a quality story so far, just not for me.
