Synopsis

A slime randomly falls into existence. Sapient and born with the ability to recreate parts of the things it preys upon, the highly confused drop of primordial soup decides that the only real thing it can do is become the being at the top of the food chain. A task of longevity in the leaves of the Omniverse.

    Spoiler

I liked this novel a lot at first but after the mc's death, splitting of the party, and the mentor's betrayal, I lost the spark because those are boring, predictable cliches that honestly doesn't make a story better for me. If I want to hear about horrible things, I'll just watch the news and the interactions between the mc's party are half of what make a story interesting, not keeping up with 5 different pov storylines. I kept reading because I literally rolled a d10 and got greater than 5. I'll use a metaphor to explain how I currently feel about this story.

I used to love fried chicken. I ate it pretty often. Then I got food poisoning from eating it. Really bad food poisoning. Since then even the smell of fried chicken makes me gag and want to hurl.

Maybe you wonder why I keep reading then? Because it was a really good story and I hope it will be again, just like I smell fried chicken every now and then to see if I've gotten better. But I doubt it and if I don't regain the spark for this novel I will probably drop it sometime during the next arc.

    EDIT

I reached the requiem finale. Goodbye and thank you for the good parts while they lasted. To the people who like this kind of story, have fun because the quality is of the story is high.

My rating is more of a 2.2 but I’ll just put a 3

It starts out quite good though I felt like it changed genres at some point, while it was at first adventure/evolution it moved onto drama/ morals, add on how annoying and out of place I felt one character was I just couldn’t continue reading, actually I feel like the novel in general had to change directions to accommodate this character.

This webnovel's tags are a tiny bit misleading, what seems to be a typical smutty story at first look turns out to be a great story with deep world-building and great characters. There are some lewd bits but they are relatively rare and the author has stated that they are optional and are written in a way that confines them to one chapter so they can be skipped. The main protagonist is a slime that is hyper-intelligent (compared to regular slimes), he is not overpowered and according to the title it will be a long journey so I'm looking forward for the long ride. His current companions have actual personalities and background and don't feel like they're made out of cardboard, the banter is wholesome, hilarious and they often have real issues that need to be solved between them or from their past, which adds to their realism. Grammar and spelling are great, mistakes are rare. Keep it up please!

Edit: Just wanted to update the review with a small warning, the so called "Sorting Algorithm of Evil" is not working in this story, and our dear MC will have to handle some "foes" that are beyond his current scope, so don't expect the MC to always come out unscathed and victorious from every situation, What I can say is that it truly develops the character of the MC and those that are around him in a meaningful way.

The story was good and I liked the idea but it's going down that whole dark depressing route and honestly I'm not here for that.

    TLDR with no spoilers:

The writing it's self is great, mostly coherent with clear intentions and a good vocabulary.  The story very suddenly devolves into a 'no killing, that's evil, no matter what!' sh*t show that I don't really want to read.  Particularly when the world is not a happy go lucky one, but a world with violent brigends and killer gods, and evil tycoons.  Yet the irony doesn't seem to reach the author.  There where also some hard core personality growths that flat out didn't happen or even worse, reverted.

OK so the long review with spoilers:

    Spoiler

The story was going well and even seemed to really be aiming high when we suddenly take a slam dunk into the trashcan as MC gets "killed" and nothing happens... yep no major reactions, no powerful back hands, no clever plan.  Just the MC dead and everyone goes quietly off to jail.

    No that's really it.

There is no fight, no mourning, no clever comeback.

Now our 2 supporting characters are an Angle with logic issues, and a mana druggie evolving crazy cat.

And they flop like fishes out of water at this.

    ...

Our drug cat should have split and high tailed it out of there swaring revenge and our Angle should have cracked her faith.

I can think of much better things to have happened, like how about angle girl snaps and decides to condem this mini world for its greed?

How about there was a plan and MC got away?

I could go on, but I don't want to waste my time any further.

This is when the whole 'don't kill, no matter what!'  Rhetoric really starts being slammed down your throat.  The Angle was never kill happy like our other two characters were, but now it's some how infected the MC all of a sudden and we are getting a bunch of side perspectives that we are somehow supposed empathize with and all they seem to say is that 'you mustn't kill, I know we did, but you shouldn't' to our characters.

If you love stories where the MC struggles to come to terms with the morality of killing murderers, rapists and demon lords, go ahead with this story.  Don't worry, it will get there.

Good in a traditional way. There's growth, conflict, mistakes, and everything humane.

'Humane' is the issue. The protagonist is a monster, yet his value is too human, albeit a bit more pragmatic. There's no value of a monster in our protagonist moral, and I find that rather unsettling. Naive, yes, but you can't really see him as a monster.

Another thing is the slow pacing. Whether this a plus or minus, it depends on the reader.

Now for my personal comment on why I give the rating that I did. I personally don't like how the protagonist got too many problems he can't dealt with. In fact, some of those problem could cause him to lose his life, literally. Basically, reading the first few arc felt like being in a horror movie, when there's not a single moment where I can be happy or relieved. You are always under pressure. There's no ups and down, it's all trouble and conspiracy against our weak, naive protagonist. It might get better later on, which is highly likely, but I can't get past the first few arc.

This is not about an MC who becomes overpowered in 2 episodes and has everything conveniently go their way. And while it starts like another slime novel others know, the style is too different from the other to compare. Evolutions and character strength are slow and requires them to adapt. They don't just suddenly absorb a dragon and become op, or have a convenient system which let's them use their powers perfectly upon acquisition.

    Cons:

MC suffers a lot. If you can't handle a story unless everything goes perfectly and gambles always work out. This is not for you. (Not a con for me)

The chapters are a little too descriptive for me sometimes, and I personally prefer a faster pace (If it's your cup of tea, you may love it).

Characters make a lot of mistakes (again, not a con for me. They're growing smarter with experience)

    Pros:

Great character development and with great depth. You don't see a world filled with dumb and 2D brains who the MC then proceeds to take advantage of.

    Good power system

    Good world building

The story flows well. You barely see plot like in many other stories, where things happen because the author is clearly forcing it together and later comes up with superficial and hole-filled reasons.

I'm not gonna lie  I had been having fun with this story for a while.  The smut was kinky, but largely connected to the emotional state of the characters.  The worldbuilding was rich and interesting.

Unfortunately the writer incessantly refers to one character's "chocolate" skin, and suggests that three characters who are already in a supportive three-way polycule would be opposed to a fourth for reasons of jealousy of all things.  I tried to tough it out for a while, to hope it got better, but at this point it's just getting uncomfortable to read and as such I have to drop it.
