Hanzi: Huǒ [火] Yè [晔 - bright light]
Alias: Xiao Ye, Ling Ye
Title: N/A
Age: 28, shaved off fifteen years when he transmigrated
Gender: Male
Sexuality:
Asexual
Birthday: 21st August
Birthplace: Macau
Eye colour:
Dark gray, luckily Ling Ye has the same although Huo Ye is jealous of his
phoenix eyes.
Hair colour:
Huo Ye has black hair that he likes to keep short. He doesn’t change this habit
even after transmigrating.
Height: Huo Ye regrets
cursing puberty as shrinking down from 180cm to 160cm is never fun.
Physique:
Huo Ye sorely misses his body. He may not have buff but being lean is far
better than the pile of bones Ling Ye is.
Physical mannerisms:
Huo Ye tends to fidget a lot and always needs something in his hands to feel
comfortable..
Personality:
Huo Ye is quite introverted and prefers to amuse himself with inanimate
objects. Although he does not mind company, rarely will he seek it out himself.
People assume him to be outgoing as he tends to talk a lot when nervous so that
he can direct the flow of conversation away from topics he doesn’t like.
He tends to get lost in his head and may make others
uncomfortable by staring, but will never meet another’s eyes.
He feels pressured to fit into society though he’s
never understood others emotions and does copy others actions to feel normal.
He’s often cheerful and being kind to others is more
logical for him, though this does not make him calculative.
He is quite scatterbrained and finds it hard to keep
on a topic he has no interest in. He’s terrible at deadlines and so has to get
everything done at once and off his plate.
Favourite food:
Huo Ye would kill for Sichuan pork but absolutely detests anything with beef in
it. He’s fond of sweet stuff and would often snack on mantou when he has enough
extra cash to cover rent.
Hobby: Huo Ye tends to
bounce around doing whatever new thing has been introduced to him. The only
thing kept constant is him wrapping himself in a blanket to read a novel as the
rain pours outside.
Dream job:
Huo Ye would like to be reincarnated as a rock or a cat so that he has no
responsibilities.
Relationship Status:
Single
Familial Relationships:
Huo Ye regrets having never told his mum or dad that he loves them, in his own
way. He’s not so lonely now because he’s got Ling Su, although he would appreciate
a pet.

Alias: Huo Ye, Ling Ye
Title: N/A
Age: 13, gained fifteen
years when he transmigrated
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Birthday: 13th
January
Birthplace: Shengu
Eye colour: Dark gray
Hair colour: Typical black
hair which he keeps at a shoulder length
Height: 160cm, although
he hasn’t hit puberty yet
Physique: Quite
malnourished, with visible bones nearly poking through sallow skin. He is quite
thin and looks androgynous with his narrow waist.
Physical
mannerisms: He’d chew on his nails when stressed, a habit he
seems to have passed on to Huo Ye.
Personality: Entitled and
grew up with a bit of an inferiority complex as his way of accepting his father’s
absence was to immortalise him father as a hero in his mind. He’s desperate for
attention and would rather risk a beating from anyone just to have them notice
him for a few moments.
He resents the
fact that he’s too young to contribute significantly to the household and was
crushed after realising that his dreams of being a cultivator would never come
to fruition.
He’s very vocal
about his wants though he tends to hide away the more sensitive thoughts he
feels society would mock him for.
Favourite food: Ling Ye has no
way to even have a favourite food as he and his sister have had the same meal
for practically his entire life. It’s only on his birthday that he would get
two slices of bread to accompany the gruel.
Hobby: Being
troublesome is the only thing he enjoys doing. The thrill of escaping his
pursuers always gets him on cloud nine.
Dream job: Any job which
pays money.
Relationship
Status:
Single
Familial
Relationships: Ling Ye knows that he’s holding his sister back and
hoped that with his death she’d end up in a relationship with Shao Wu who could
take care of her.
As far as xianxia and cultivation stories go, this one is a hidden gem. Although it does not have a whole lot of chapters yet, it shows great promise with the chapters that exist so far. The world-building is nice, and it feels like the author has done a fair amount of research and thinking on how to put things together, interweaving the more historical aspects with the more fantastical elements. The protagonist, the unwilling transmigrator Huo Ye, seems quite pragmatic to my eyes, which is a plus. I also found it interesting to follow him as he adapts to his new circumstances, and how the people around him adapt to him (or rather,
to the suddenly changed personality of the person whose body he now inhabits).
