It has promise if does continue on the realistic isekai of an person in medieval setting unlike most fanfics and novels of an op guy with extreme great knowledge about medieval weapons and gunpowder. But this one is realistic and showing a lot of promise so I recommend it

May also have romance and a tactician MC rather then a op militry one which does make sense.

I rarely review anything because quality of stories are usually too low for me to bother but this here is absolute gem. Especially if I did leave a review on two sites just to make sure it gets a fair review!

    - Attention to details, realism and knowledge about how actual warfare works, how medeival society actually operated without self inserts and nonsense.

    - Historically accurate despite minor splashes of reincarnation and potentially magic. Actually not potentially but actual magic (and MC is not obsessed with it), elves that live thousands of years and more. So much more!

Almost as if I am back to school or just reading r/AskHistorian. Feels amazing and refreshing without having to bother myself with another power trip of astronomical nonsense and don't get me wrong, it is fun to read about that if written in a good way but having magic in actually realistic setting is almost entirely non-existent in current popular novel/literature space.

So yeah, at least give it a try!

I've given this story far too much of my time already, and it isn't getting any better. The pacing in this story is some of the worst I've read in a long while—in fact, it might even be the worst I've ever read, period. Time skips galore, loads of infodumps, some actual good moments here and there, and a vast amount of annoying or boring moments filled throughout. Then, to make things worse, the MC is a Mary Sue.

Let's start with the MC. He is authoritative, confident, a pushover, a coward, a genius, very slow, someone who just hit puberty around women, and a Chad. I'm not exaggerating—it takes him over two years of full immersion to reach basic conversational fluency in the local language—much longer than any normal person in his situation—yet he's able to quickly grasp what a location has and how to best put it to use for whatever situation he's in, militarily or domestically. He's shaken by the thought of being around girls, then one day he just decides he's now a confident Chad. He's able to voice his opinion with confidence and authority when he feels like it, yet most of the time he's too scared to voice his opinion, ask, demand, or negotiate for more than the bare minimum. I haven't quite found the medieval MMO game he played to learn everything he has, but it sounds wild.

Here are some various things about the pacing issues the story has.

At one point, the MC was obsessing over some characters that the story made crystal clear were unimportant through heavy time-skipping and minimal development, and then later some of them turn out to be important. The story skipped all the development that would make you care, then expects you to be invested when the MC obsesses over them for chapters on end. It's really annoying if you took the hint and expected him to focus on his immediate survival and growth after a little grieving.

There are a lot of strange infodumps that interrupt the story and are solely there to replace actually integrating the information into the narrative. I'm not sure why so many stories rely on infodumps so heavily, but they aren't enjoyable to read and break the flow constantly. For what it's worth, the world itself is actually pretty interesting.

The time skips are awful and make little sense in a slice-of-life-tagged story. It's expected there would need to be some, but when the MC is doing something interesting, there is often a time skip to the end so we can get to what I assume is going to be the main cast of mostly generic and forgettable supporting characters. Now, I'm not saying I wanted to read the first two years worth of time skips, but what I am saying is that you need to ask if a story really needs two years worth of time skips and if there isn't a better way, like starting the story later in the timeline.

There are some pretty enjoyable moments sprinkled throughout the story, but they're quickly overshadowed by the worst moments that come shortly after. They're the only reason I read so far into the story because I hoped it was going to be, yet another, story with a terrible start and great middle. Even if it does get better, it's far too late at this point.

Overall, I can't recommend this story. These issues can't be fixed because these issues are in the published version—the author could have fixed the MC's jarring personality shifts or developed the supposedly important characters properly, but chose not to.

If you come from reading a Japanese Isekai light novel, at first you like the power and the change that generates that power in the world, but few Authors manage to give a purpose of such power, but when they try to give coherence, when you keep reading you realize that such power is an excuse to interact with ultra mythological beings, but you end up disappointed because they are mostly beings that are more generic than a Hollywood movie cliché, then you wonder what happens to people who do not have a gift power?

Well we have "Horizon of War" escaping and proving that you don't need a poor excuse of power fantasy from a novice Author, who never read or informed himself on how to structure a good fiction, Many forget that the greatest power an Isekai character has, is not the generic gifted power they are given, it is the human knowledge we have gathered, which many of the public despise for not being relevant in our days, but in a world where things are in diapers, no one is prepared the power of the modern Real world and all that it implies. Muajajajaja cof cof cof... well, if you are looking for something more credible, realistic, argued and prepared, this novel is for you, it is fascinating how the Author shows that the most feared weapon in the world is a well applied knowledge.

PS: The protagonist hasn't said it, nor thought it, but I suspect they were a fan of "Age of Empires II" haha.

Okay I just finished chapter 1 but I am loving it so far! It seems like it will be a realistic progression in a medieval world. And it also seems like an accurate representation of how life was back then. Also, like the

Do you want to read about a portal fantasy that has a smart MC who doesn't have a cardboard personality but a normal one?

Do you like it when all the characters are well-developed and aren't 2D dumbasses to make MC look better?

Do you like it when information is cleverly and realistic given to you instead of boring info dumps and the world isn't in a box but a true world and things are happening?

Then this is the novel for you.
