Myanna of the Verdant Lust wishes to climb the ranks of the Abyssals but knows her recent promotion as the head Alchemist will not give her what she needs. Instead, she takes a dangerous mission to prove that her strength, alchemy, and magic can be put to better use by the goddess that leads the them.
This story was frustrating for me. I really want to like it.
The writing is excellent, in the technical sense. The characters are well fleshed out; the world is large and robust, or at least it gives that impression; the combat, s*x, action, dialogue, intrigue are all well done, when taken on their own. All the individual, unique elements that make up a story are generally well done, in isolation.
And that is the problem, in isolation.
This story has problems with pacing. It feels, when reading, like the pacing is consistently changing leaving me, the reader, feeling uncertain what is coming next, what I should or should not be anticipating, and a bit of emotional whiplash. As the story progresses, it becomes an increasingly frustrating experience. It leaves me feeling like all the characters, as a whole, are incompetent.
All in all, reading this felt like I had been dropped into a movie after all the setup and context for the films plot had already been given out and now the drama was in the process of unfolding. It leaves me confused and, ultimately, unsatisfied.
If you like stories that are generally dark.. You might like this.
However, if you are looking for a well paced tale that includes a proper setup with sufficient context to understand not only what is going on but to help set the stage for the possibilities to come, this isn't it.

Very promising story, MC is kind of OP but het enemies and frenemies are way above her so It's ok. The smexy times are hot and the plot is interesting enough. If the author has time and will to take it to 50 or 100 chapters and get a good resolution it could be a gem of a story.
