The Emoran Republic

The Emoran Republic has stood for well over a thousand years. Over that time it has changed the face of history of the lands around it and has nearly collapsed into dust many times, but it has always survived.

The Republic is made up of many constituent provinces, some taken by war during its rise to power, some via diplomacy. The ones taken by conquest and the fellow republics that were peacefully subdued are ruled by local councils who wield power devolved to them by the Emoran senate. The provinces that were once petty kingdoms and tribes that bent the knee and willingly subjugated themselves into the republic are ruled by hereditary princes who answer only to the Senate but are far fewer in number than the council and city provinces.

The Republic itself is ruled by the senate and two Consuls. The Senate is elected by the citizens from across the republic and each senator serves for three years. The Consuls are elected from the ranks of the Senate every year by contrast and cannot serve more than six times.

The army of the Republic is divided into two parts: The City State Militias and the Legionaries. The City State Militias are formed by the local provinces for the defence of the province and to reinforce the legionaries during war and vary in quality depending on the wealth of the province but for the most part, are professional forces despite their name. The Legionaries however are a fully professional force under the control of the Senate and the Consuls organised into legions and act as a mobile reaction force and the offensive fist of the Republic. These two forces together have through many reforms and years kept the Republic, while now past its prime, alive.
