Starting My Life Over As a Gyaru Chewtoy

Caught in a miserable cycle of endless work hours and abject social failure, thirty-seven-year-old Hoshino Yoru accidentally meets a tragic end. Fortunately for her, a surprise miracle allows her to start her life over from scratch ⸺ while also granting her heart's deepest wish!

However, her new life isn't exactly as expected: thirty percent of women are "alternate-pheromone positive," which means a whole host of social complications. Things take a strange turn as she finds herself caught in the amorous affections of an omega and an alpha, who will take on all challengers in the battle for Yoru's heart!

Let me just say I've been reading webnovels since 2012, starting with Chinese/Korean/Japanese webnovels, and eventually moving mainly into Royalroad stuff around 2015 or so. I've been reading on scribblehub as well since 2022, only now today making my account. The reason I finally made an account for this site, is to leave a review on this amazingly beautiful webnovel and encourage others to read this novel.  This novel is easily in my top 3 for scribblehub right now, and I'm sure you will love it as well if the tags are your jam.

I Wanted a Second Chance, But Not Like This - Is a story of a woman who lost herself in despair and unrequited romance in her first life, and is given a chance to rectify and have a better life in a new world. This new world is a pseudo omegaverse setting with some slight divergences from the norm as I understand it, with Alpha's and Omega's mainly being at least in the viewers context centered around the women. If you are hoping for any male characters then think again, because all we have here is a strong Alpha female in that sense. For me this is perfect, because I love futanari settings, so I am a little biased in this regard. Anyway to get into more specifics ratings. Mildish spoilers ahead, not story depth stuff just outlines.

Story  5/5 -------For me this story is as close to as perfect as I can expect from a non award winning author. The story itself is centered mainly around the drama of the love lives of our 3 women, all of whom we get some pov chaps from, but the main focus is through Yoru's eyes.  Yoru to be blunt, is a bit of a broken woman, and with that is generally how most of the story progression occurs, where we as readers are riding first class on how Yoru has to work her way through her insecurity and anxiety that broke her in her last life. This leads to a lot of drama that will leave you in pain and then happiness when things are resolved. Very compelling and this made me binge read all the way to Ch 15 one night all the way to 5 am when I laid down at 10pm. I couldn't stop reading it, and I desperately wanted chapter 16.

Grammar 5/5 -------Really not much else to say here, the author is writing at a very high level and barely makes any mistakes, I was highly surprised when I visited their itch and scribblehub profile to find this is their only listed work.

Style 5/5 -------The story is mostly centered around Yoru, with a few POV switches between the other two main girls to give a little more depth on their thoughts on what's going on in all this drama. It strikes a really good balance, but I wouldn't mind if we had chapters where the POV does flip halfway through or something, getting more perspective from Saya/Reika would be great, although it doesn't necessarily need to be a full chapter.

Characters 4.5/5 ------- Finally the BEST & the "WORST" part of the story. Mind you review readers, when I put 4.5 here, I don't mean it's bad in the slightest. It's basically a 5/5 as well, but I do have to take umbrage to how ASTRONOMICALLY DENSE Yoru can be at times. For a woman that lived a relatively long life in her first life and is now once again 16 or so, she is terribly dense at times. At the same time the author gives her many reasons on why she is this way, and they all perfectly make sense. It still doesn't make her not aggravating at times though lol. At the same time, this makes her so realistic and hard not to love, because she is such an imperfect character that desperately craves to be recognized and loved. Some of the other characters are also dense as well at times, simply to kind of keep the drama in the story flowing, but it just works. They all feel very real and act like humans actually would at their respective ages. The only other negative and this kind of touches on what I just said is that
Minor spoilers ahead, just some general vague story/character stuff.

    Spoiler

Sometimes Yoru will do something that lands her in hot water with other characters that know her full story, but she still eats most of the blame. Mind you she definitely is to blame for a good portion of it, but sometimes it feels like they really just ignore that she barely knows anything about Omega/Alpha relationships and blame her when she reacts poorly over it, especially given her past. It doesn't help that they all keep playing hot potato for a long time about how to give her the rundown on what is normal for them, even though they all acknowledge how dense and uninformed she is. It felt like this part of the drama took too long to be solved in my opinion, I know the other two are teens, but this could have been solved by them just talking the slightest bit instead of clamming up, and blaming her for being dumb even though she wasn't going to be taught about it until next semester.

    [collapse]

Anyway to conclude my review, this is by far the best NSFW Romantic Drama on scribblehub in my opinion. I haven't read anything on this site that has really reached the level of emotional depth that this story achieves. I went into Chapter 16 today with my nerves tensed up, and I've reread the last 20% of it at least 10 times now, because it just made me so happy. If you like drama with lesbian's & futanari, this is the story for you, dont hesitate! Read now!

I beg our lovely author to finish this story, and continue making more in the future in the same vein because you have a real talent for it.

A great start to a fantastic ongoing series. Buckle in for a lot of emotion, relatable characters, and a main character you will end up caring about regardless of how inept she is.

Is it hot? Absolutely. But you are also going to feel something in your heart.

I Wanted a Second Chance, But Not Like This - Review up to Chapter 6

I could likely go on about this story quite a while, but given that there are no current reviews I want to make this short enough to interest anybody who is considering reading this. Why should you read this story? This story covers a topic that's appeared in many other stories, the concept of starting over your life, but it does it in a way that feels very emotionally impactful and serious. As of Chapter 6 there has been several seeds laid in the ground for what is going to be quite a great look at how somebody would approach restarting life. I'm going to cover three points. First is how Yoru, the main character, deals with the differences in this new chance at life and her old life. It goes a lot deeper than the starting effects might be, and I think some of the most enjoyable points I've had in reading this is making theories on what I think is happening. While currently there is a lot of future questions on what's happening you can definitely figure out parts of the story. Including some of the issues that Yoru herself might be facing. Secondly, there is also a really well-done sincerity and care put into scenes that other authors might just write off because of the s*xual nature of them. These scenes are passionately thought through, and they have emotions of the characters actively affecting them. In some stories at times s*x can feel as though it's divided from the story, but here it plays a part in what the characters do and how they feel consistently. Third, this story takes a really interesting look at gender dynamics and somebody's viewpoints on them. In this case most of the story is viewed through Yoru's eyes, and given that she comes from a society that has strict male and female gender roles it is quite the difference to come to a new society where gender is looked at in such a different way. Without giving too much away Yoru makes some stumbles, but I beg you to look past blaming her and consider the reasons for why she may think in certain ways. The more that you engage with the ideas being presented the more you're going to get out of this story.

I would actively encourage this story to you if you are interested in: Interesting Look at Isekai-type stories, Gender Dynamics, Women Loving Women, and Gyarus. If even one of those interests you then please read at least a few chapters into this story. I'm sure you'll find that it's going to grab your attention.
