This is a side story to A Mage in the Savage Lands, as that book was getting too long in my opinion, so some chapters just got deleted, and this... more>> subplot got turned into its own short story. It takes place during the second book of the Nath’aniel series so you do not need to have already read that to read this, but it is strongly suggested that you have already read the 1st book in the series, A Mage in Marvel, to understand what has already happened.

Gore is ticked, because my writing takes a more realistic take on what super humans would be like in our world. Strong Language is ticked, because there is some swearing in my writing. And Sexual Content is tick, because a pair of chapters are somewhat edgy, but there is no Erotica in this short story.

Each chapter will between 2300 and 2800 words, while the single Interlude in this book will be shorter (about 1400 words). Unlike the regular entries in the series, this book will not have a prologue (to foreshadow a future event in the story) or an epilogue (to foreshadow the next installment).

What to Expect:

A bit amateurish writing. The chapter count is within the 1k-2k range within the first 17 chapters, but picks up to 2k-3k afterwards. I try to improve my writing as I go along, and have a habit of editing narrations in past chapters.

A lot of the whole ‘secret-organisation’ genre in a contemporary setting, with power plays and politics sprinkled within the story between ‘Iv’ and their six other colleagues.

A pretty overpowered main character ‘Iv’, who usually sticks to doing paperwork but still fights from time to time.

Besides that, occasional slice-of-life scenes and character development.

Gore, swearing and action scenes (Action gets better over time I promise).

Various POVs from different casts, with ‘Iv’ and her allies as the main focus. <<less

Book 2 of the Nath’aniel Series
Nath’aniel and the Brotherhood have driven away the soldiers that chased them all the way to the Preserve, and they have started to repair and restore some of the systems of the Citadel. However, their actions have brought them the attention of the other local peoples and tribes, and word from the survivors has spread, as the value of the region is in question. Causing some government agencies’ to take notice, and send their own personnel to check out the region. So now can Nath’aniel, Magneto and the others find a place for themselves in the Savage Lands?

This story is the continuation from A Mage in Marvel,... more>> if you have not already read that story. You should do so before continuing. This novel is longer than the first one, so it may be a bit much for some, but sadly as with a good story it was just too hard to reduce or remove some parts, as each chapter somewhat leads to the next.

Sexual Content is ticked, because in this novel unlike the last one there are a couple of explicit scenes. They are not full chapters but the shorter Interludes and are marked with a (NSFW) in their chapter title. Gore is ticked, because again, these are generally super humans fighting and killing regular people, so it can be a bit messy. Strong Language is ticked, because some of these characters just have potty mouth and swear.

Each chapter will be between 2500 and 3000 words, while interludes will be shorter (around 1500-1800 words). [Note i do not include the chapter line nor the following two lines (the header) in my personal word count, so it may be about 15-20 words longer]

a note on my current writing process:
i am writing Path of Cold Iron as a way to challenge and test my Path of Cold Iron skills mainly by learning to change my writing style to fit a different format (this is something i do for fun)

the prologue for this is going to be a little long, this is to set up the story changes going forward. For instance characters having different friends and allies different then in the trails series. i am planing to show some events from both the villein and hero sides partly so as not to follow the trails plot in the same way or from the same perspective.

for the start their are few time skips. in part these are like training montages as this story starts from the mc as a baby and i needed to have something to fill the time and expand the story but was not going to write every day of their life for like 20 plus years. the time skips should slow to be at most a few weeks instead of a few years when i get to the in universe year where the trials in the sky game starts. <<less
