It has been about a week since I reincarnated. During this time, I have realized just how boring it is to be a baby. I have little to no control over my body yet, I am unable to stay awake for long, and I am at the mercy of the adults around me. I tried testing some of the new skills I got, and they turned out pretty interesting. The first skill I tried out was Spirit Vision. As the name suggests, this skill allows me to see spirits. They appear as small balls of light with different color depending on the element. Watching the spirits float around is like watching fish in a fish tank and has been one of the few sources of entertainment I have at the moment. I also tried my Ice Mist unique skill but couldn’t really get a feel for it yet because Anastasia noticed the drop in temperature and came running.
I also tried to use my magic and learned that out of all the magic I can use my ice magic and illusion magic are the best. If I had to rank my magic on how easy it is to use it would be: ice, illusion, lightning, space. I’m not sure how proficient I am with healing magic because there is nothing for me to use it on but if I go with my gut feeling, I would put it between lightning and space. If my mana pool wasn’t so small, I could practice more but there is only so much I can do right now.
Aside from all of the testing I did, I also tried to get any information I could regarding the world during my two years of being dead. From what I was lucky enough to overhear is that the hero party still hasn’t defeated the King of Fiends that is the reason that they were summoned to kill in the first place. I am honestly surprised that it is taking them as long as it is to finish their mission, but then I remembered what the two who are leading the summoned heroes are like. The person who had the Hero class, Shin Grayson, is an idiotic narcissist. The one who got the Saint class, Sara Grayson, is the hero’s twin sister and is just as narcissistic as her brother. Shin is the muscle while Sara is the mind.
If I had to guess the reason it is taking them so long to kill the King of Fiends, it would be because they do not want to lose the privileges that they received when we were all summoned. When we were brought to this world it was explained to us that we were stronger than the average people of this world and our aging was stopped for as long as the King of Fiends remained. The reason we were given for this was so that we could train and remain at our peak physical condition until we finished our mission. I honestly find it stupid to stall this for so long. There is nothing stopping the native people of this world from summoning more people to fight if the current summoned people refuse to do so. The longer they put this off, the more they will be resented in the end, this world isn’t as nice as Earth. I wouldn’t risk being lynched just for the sake of longevity.
I also learned that my father is a general of the beast kingdom Savanna and was recently sent to the front lines to defend the kingdom’s border from the fiends. It seems that he is a part of a unified army made up of several elites from many countries to defend against the fiends. This unified army is made up of all the races that live on this continent and is sent to guard the borders of the Land of Fiends and to clear a path to allow the heroes to get to the King of Fiends. I have a feeling that the unified army is having quite a hard time due to the heroes taking so long.
“I hope someone comes along to light a fire under the heroes so that they get their job done soon.”
I say this as I go back to watching the spirits float around and try to come up with something else to keep me entertained.
Author's Note:
Sorry it took me so long to get this chapter out, school is a pain and it has taken up a lot of my time. I hope you enjoy the chapter and tell me what you think I can improve. Thanks for reading and I will write some more soon.
First thing that jumped to my mind was that the hero party would be smart if they just weakened and imprisoned the 'king of fiends' effectively making the hero party incapable of aging and stronger than anyone else.
My guess is whatever makes the king of fiends what they are would also affect the longevity and strength of the heroes? So as to keep balance in world or something?
@EMPTY-SOUL88 The King of Fiends could also be the previous summoned hero like there needing to be King of Fiends like in WoW you need to have Lich King or else Scourge without leadership would go zerg on Azeroth
@Rosier1389 "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you."
It seems like it hasn’t been explained yet, but why was Luna/Jason killed? He didn’t seem surprised that it happened, so it seems like it was something he sort of saw coming, but why would the other heroes straight up kill him?
Because they are narcissistic idiots who don’t like it when people try to tell them what to do. Jason was trying to get them to focus on their objective of training to kill the King of fiends and they didn’t like it so the killed him and tried to pass it off as he died to a trap. They aren’t supposed to be smart. The only two that had anything to do with his death were the hero and Saint. He knew what they were like so he expected some sort of betrayal. It is roughly explained in the first side chapter.
@Paytoechip
I couldn't help but notice that there is a major flaw jn your logic. The people that summoned the protagonist group are essentially kidnappers. Why should the hero group do what they tell them to do?
Any normal human would try to kill the kidnappers (this case will be the people who summoned them) and take revenge on the kidnappers.
How would you feel if you suddenly get kidnapped? After you got kidnapped, you are willing to live as a tool for killing and listen to your kidnappers as a good loyal dog?
The kidnappers need to be killed.
The protagonist has a bad mindset, helping your kidnappers is a bad mindset.
There is a major difference between getting hit by truck-kun and isekai by a god vs forcing kidnapped (summoned) from Japan.
In the second case, where you are kidnapped (summoned) by people in another world, the first priority is to get strong and kill your kidnappers. First objective is NOT to kill the demon lord. Don't be a doormat and let your kidnappers walk all over you. Killing the kidnappers prevent them from kidnapping more people from Japan.
I hope all authors of the isekai genre actually think things through before writing.
PS: I have not read the story yet. I hope the protagonist wouldn't be one of those doormat MC that actually listen (obey) to his/her kidnappers. Kidnappers need to die! And if this "Unified army" approves the kidnapping of children from Earth, they need to be completely killed and destroyed.
@kumahime9 I personally would not mind being transmigrated if I could gain awesome powers. No good without bad.
@GodofWar It would depend on the people who summoned me. If they were only using me for power, give them the middle finger, if they were actual decent people, I wouldn't mind helping within reason.
@GodofWar kidnappers are still kidnappers. How about you get kidnapped (summoned) to middle east to fight a war there without your permission? Would you like that?
How about the people that are left behind? How would you like it if your significant other or your child get kidnapped to another world, and he/she is forced to fight a war?
Be a good little dog and wag your tail to kidnappers. "Yes, master me loyal because you kidnapped me."
How about grow a backbone, instead of being a doormat?
Kidnappers are decent people? How in the world can kidnappers be decent? Kidnappers are horrible people that should be punished!
I think people need to stop justifying kidnapping.
@kumahime9 Man, calm down. Have you or anyone close to you kidnapped? I will be last person who'll want to be kidnapped especially by the "good" folks of the middle east. Even if it was to another world unless I get power to fight off any adverse conditions, it would not bother me much. My point is that it is not the end of the world if you get kidnapped, it is when you don't have the strength to fight back. Getting transmigrated is just a fantasy, when you are aware of your station in life and can pretty much predict how life will be ahead it is freeing to think and imagine of what could be. A little bit of chaos in life is what makes it more fulfilled. I know this since I personally know someone who has faced adversity in life to his life. The stories are something out of a novel but with real consequences.
@GodofWar @Paytoechip
I like isekai power fantasy as much as the next person.
I am just pointing out the flawed logic of isekai fantasy where you are summoned to another world to fight the demon lord (in this book's case is "King of Fiends").
A lot of people that read these type of isekai novel failed to comprehend the kidnapping issue (being summon by a kingdom or people of the world). They failed to realized that the people who kidnapped (summoned) you are not your friend. They are the enemy and are 100% using you. A lot of people that read these type of isekai novel failed to comprehend the emotional trauma of the the family members that are left behind.
The correct response of being forcibly kidnapped (summoned) to another world is, lay low for a while, train hard to level up and get stronger. Pretend to make progress, while buying time to level up and get super strong. After you get strong enough to kill the kidnappers, you slaughter them all. King, Queen, princess, royal mages, whoever, doesn't matter, just slaughter them all for the crime of kidnapping. Afterwards, if you want to stay in this world, you can travel the world to get stronger, or you can lay low somewhere to live your life out while enjoying life in another world. If you want to return to earth, you can try to find a method to get back home. You can even become the new demon lord if you get strong enough. Whether you want to be good or evil is up to you.
What I hate the most is the protagonist sucking up and be a loyal dog to the kidnappers.
I just hate doormat MC, the type that is pushover. If the kidnappers want you to kill the demon lord, you go kill the demon lord ---> this is the definition of doormat MC.
There are many ways to write a isekai. I like power fantasy, I like overpower protagonist. I just hate doormat MC. Kill the people who kidnapped you first, then we will talk.
@kumahime9 Well, everyone gets a choice to go right back to the exact moment they were summoned from, some of them choose to stay and move on with their lives, some of them don't get a choice but to stay because they are scummy people that dragged out the whole thing for a fake immortality, I know I didn't go into a lot of detail with the whole summoning thing, but all the people that were were told exactly what will happen if they participate or not. If they chose not to, nothing would happen, they'll be kept safe, those that participate will make the whole experience end faster.
I'm not trying to go with one of those stories where the protagonist is summoned, betrayed at the end, and goes on to get revenge. I wanted to write a story about a person who was summoned but got killed by two idiots who wanted to hold on to a false immortality, and through that, meets their soulmate, and goes on an adventure to join them.
Sure, the summoned people could refuse to participate, it would just take them a whole lot longer to go back because they don't, but they would eventually be able to go back all the same. I'm not going for realism here, I just want to write the story that I want to write.
If you think the MC is a doormat, then you're free to think that. I'm going to write my story the way I want to write it. If you have a problem with it, I'll listen to your feedback, and if it works with where I want the story to go, I'll accommodate it, if not, I won't. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and I'm entitled to write how I want to write.
@Paytoechip
some of them don't get a choice but to stay because they are scummy people that dragged out the whole thing for a fake immortality
Isekai Department of Deportation
@kumahime9 I'd like to know why it is that your first response is murder. I mean, I get the whole "kidnapping" thing, I'd be pissed too, but... why immediately jump to slaughtering the lot of them? First of all, half the time in these stories, they're specifically summoning a hero. Not some random person that gets a hero title slapped on them, but a person who is a hero. Which means said person would naturally be inclined to help out a world in danger. That's the whole reason the spell chose them.
And even besides that, think about the perspective of the people doing the summoning. Sometimes they're just opportunistic asshats, sometimes they're evil, but most times they're just desperate. The demons are attacking, the humans are losing, and the only thing they can do at this point is call out to the void and pray for a miracle. Sure, if the spell isn't one of those that picks someone that would want to be summoned, then their desperation really doesn't excuse dragging an innocent person into this, but I really think that jumping to murdering them all is a bit much. So I'm curious why that's answer number one for you.
@kumahime9 On the kill them all part I think it depends on the situation if it a end of world kind last resort thing less evil then still bad but so what at most kill the nobles that called for it or the church after you kill the demons
If you can kill the demons and there lord your probably stronger enough for revenge and well they couldn’t do it
@kumahime9 it's not that they don't know.
But they just look at the people who kidnapped them as the people who "Isekaied" them, making impossible, possible by transportating them to another world.
They would have looked at them kidnapper only in normal kidnapping circumstances if they don't get Isekaied.
And it seems their isn't really a genius or very observant people in this hero party.
Just look at how mc is trying to save the king of friend, idk, if it's for helping people or to return back tho. Still.
I am liking the way this is written and the mc is passive enough for now, that i will continue reading.
@Zexia Luna... passive...
Our little ball of common sense breaking fluff is very much of the "it seemed like a good idea at the time" school of chaos and mayhem, but in a good way. Any hint of passiveness or doormat behaviour died with her previous body, now she's much too busy running around having a fun time, making friends, and raining hell on anyone stupid enough to act the bad guy in front of her.
Some isekai plots do have a kidnapping vibe to them, but here things are quite a bit less unreasonable. There's none of that sending them off to fight a hopeless boss rush nonsense, instead the natives have the situation mostly under control and they're just looking for someone willing to be power levelled until they can deal with the one enemy the natives wouldn't be able to handle themselves. Nobody is getting pressured into doing anything, to the point where the pair of scum could stall the war for years, and anyone who doesn't want to fight on the front lines is pretty much just getting a free extended holiday.
The only one who really comes out of the summoning arc with a loss are the pair who behave like criminal scum and the Fiends. The latter doesn't really count though, being a how they're abominations.
@Zexia
Just look at how mc is trying to save the king of friend
Ummm... Spoilers?
