Only women are trained in the art of demonic summoning, but that hasn't stopped Hawley from keeping a secret from their closest friends. When obsession with the town's strange claw machines turns to a plan of action, will Hawley have the courage to go through with their convoluted scheme? And when the prize at the end of the claw is a chance to be the person they've always wanted, what will they risk to get it?
So many emotions, so much intensity. So many cliffs!
But I am loving this one. The writing is excellent, pulling you in and making you feel for the characters. Hoping that against all odds, that things will work out for all of them. Cause they all deserve it.
Highly recommend!

I'm in love with this story because of how succinctly and accurately it captures the trans experience. So many stories fail to capture that feeling of wanting to shout to the whole world that you so deeply feel you should be a woman that's coupled with the total inability to express your personality for fear of your very existence being unraveled. It's having your emotions constantly at a boiling point 24/7 while simultaneously hoping no one and everyone notices. It leads to this urge to run away and start anew just to avoid explaining to your loved ones the person you want to work towards being. Holly embodies these traits in a way not often seen in fiction. The narrative device of her eventually being *forced* to express her true and unbounded feelings brings a huge sense of catharsis for those who've experienced complex thoughts about their gender and felt the need to bury those feelings. If only it were so simple to press a button and have your deepest desires laid out rather than try your best to shatter the extraordinarily thick wall you've spend years fortifying. The thing about being trans that can be both pure magic and horribly tragic is that it has this ability to show you what people really think about you beyond the surface level role you play in their lives. It can show you how little people care about you in many cases, but when you open yourself to people who really do care it's like a shortcut to some of the deepest and most meaningful relationships anyone could ask for. All of this has rung true in my own life, so to see it all mirrored in this story is deeply touching and it has me hooked. There's also some cool and subtle world building explained in a way that doesn't feel out of place and the cute demon girls get to eat pickle dog.

yay its back with an update! What could I say about this story for new readers to see what this story;
when I first came to sh, there were stories that everyone you cared to listen to because of what they wrote would point you to read next, like an odd whisper network of pillar stories. This is one of them. I rarely ever read a story more then once, this one ive read multiple times. Check it out.
