It is a mystery novel, more of a crime novel, really. Which is not something that is often seen on SH. The action is well-delivered, and the villains are actually competent. Well, there was this slight hiccup where the villain didn't keep Cal in bindings even when it was obvious he should have been cautious, but it was used to make Cal appear like a proper investigator, instead of a victim.
The two main characters, for now, I think the ML love interest is one of the villains and hasn't been introduced to the MC yet, are Cal and Sigal. There is a set-up for a big, dramatic, reveal to explain why Sigal doesn't work in a team anymore. And there is secrecy surrounding Cal.
Yes, this is BL, but it won't end nice and fluffy, especially if the love interest is one of the bad guys. There is a potential for conflict that could manifest itself into Cal seeing the love interest either dead or behind bars.
